Gentlemen:

It has come to my attention that your Jasmine Restaurant serves shark fin soup.

Surely you are aware that the consumption of this dish is fueling the alarming depletion of the shark populations in the oceans. Some 100 million sharks are being killed each year, often brutally and mainly for their fins. If this is not brought to a halt, the adverse ecological effects of over-fishing sharks (and other endangered marine animals) will be irreversible.

Whoever sells or consumes shark fin soup contributes directly to a development expert conservationist organizations such as WildAid consider catastrophic.

Please take your time and open the following link:

Please demonstrate that your organization is committed to the protection of our marine environment, and have Jasmine Restaurant take off the shark fin soup dish from its menu.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear Mr. Absher:

Please look into this and advise. Professor Brian W. Darvell from the University of Hong Kong has been in touch with you in reference to a similar matter some time ago.

Thank you very much.

While simply keeping your silence might be the easiest way to "handle" touchy requests, it is very bad business  /  public relations policy, to say nothing about good manners .......  I cannot give you the benefit of the doubt - you know exactly that serving shark fin soup is NOT right, not in China, not in Las Vegas, not anywhere.

Dear Ms. Garcia:

I very much hope that you are the person at MGM Mirage who will take an interest in dealing with my request.

Let me state that I love good Chinese cuisine. I also love sharks  -   ALIVE, not in a bowl of soup.

Best regards,

Wolfgang Leander
