My company currently uses DAMS through R.S.

A few days ago, I received a request to add two new fields to the display list when completing a simple search for all resources. I added "Author Name" as one of the requested fields, but it appears that this field isn't mapped. There has not been any data appearing within the column. I understand that different resource types (audio, photo, documentation, video) will have different mappings for this field, but how do I figure out which ExifTool field to use?

Thank you!

You'll need to do a few things:

Turn on the config option "$metadata_report" in your configuration file (config.php). This will give you a metadata report option on the resource view page. Use this to figure out the exiftool mappings you'll need.

Then, place the mapping in the proper location on the resource type field edit page. Check each new field to make sure it's set to be indexed. If not, check the proper box. This isn't a requirement, but if you'll be displaying this new info, there's a good chance people will want to search for it as well.

Next, have a look at the script "../pages/tools/update_exiftool_field.php". The notes at the top will tell you how to run the script so only certain fields are updated. Follow the instructions and run the script on the fields with new mappings.

You may also need to use the link underneath the indexing option to "reindex this field" should you find the new field's data isn't searchable, but I believe this should be handled in the previous step.

Finally, in your configuration file, add the two new field ids to "$data_joins=array(<csv_list_of_field_ids>);".
This allows the field info to show with search results.

Looking at the config.php file as it is now without having made any changes, the $metadata_report option reads as follows; $metadata_report=true;

Does this mean that it is already on?

Hi Allison,

Working with config.php is a fairly new concept to me, so I have a few questions:

Yes, you should be able to see the metadata report link on any view.php page.
