I wanted to make sure my changes while experimenting weren't to blame,
so I did a fresh reinstall this morning. This time I used Ubuntu 10.04
(not 10.10 if that makes any difference, which it probably doesn't). I
did a svn install of ResourceSpace and installed unoconv.
All files were uploaded with preview image disabled in the "save"
output of Microsoft Office 2011 Mac. I tested
using .doc, .docx, .pptx., .xls, .xlsx and .rtf. I used the sample
templates that come with Microsoft Office 2011 Mac to generate content
for my test files.
After manually executing " /usr/bin/unoconv -l & " (the --listener
option gives an error) I was able to reliably create previews for
everything except .xlsx files. I sometimes see a preview with .xlsx
files but sometimes I don't.
For now things certainly look good enough to go forward with. I will
have unoconv -l start with each boot. We rarely use .xlsx files, and
when we need them I will recommend using .xls instead which seem to be
more reliably converted at the moment. The most important files for us
will be the .docx files which are in very heavy use here.
Thanks for the information.
