Hello,

I am very impressed with resource space and want to use it instead of canto cumulus single user to manage the images for a historic photographic archive charity.
My question;  It is very easy to set up with Mamp and I have used this to test resource space. Are there any drawbacks to using Mamp all the time for the production version.
I have also managed to set up resource space with OS X server , but it is a bit of a faff and as yet I can't seem to connect to it on the network.

Regards

Hi,

I'm not familiar with MAMP, per se, but I know those kinds of stand-alone environment packages are generally targeted at developers who want/need to develop and test for multiple environments; it's often more convenient to have them all on the developer's machine vs. having to log into a bunch of different ones. Anything with "developer" written on it, in my book, means "not for production use." It's just my view but I wouldn't run a production system on one.

We have a Mac Mini running OS X Server that's running Resourcespace just fine. Our Web developer had to install a bunch of additional apps and tools to set up a complete environment for it since RS is a unix app rather than an actual OS X app, but being otherwise set up at the system level (rather that in an isolated stand-alone environment like MAMP) it had no problems connecting to the network.

I hope that's at least a little helpful.

Thank you for your very helpful reply,
I figured that would be the case. I now have it running via the built in Apache server on OS X Yosemite although I am still ironing out some issues. I did try it with OS X server app, but although I could get resource pace to run well on the host machine I could not access it on the network. I would be interested to hear if your developer had any similar problems.

Apache is running our instance of RS also. I don't think she tried anything within the OS X interface itself.

Are you using the Server app, or starting and stopping from the terminal?

Once our developer got it running, we've never stopped it ;-). But I don't believe she used any of the OS X GUI server features - it's just running under the native apache server.

Thank you, that's the way I shall go then, just got to work out the networking.

Have you looked into Bitnami resource space https://bitnami.com/stack/resourcespace

I have, thankyou. I think it is another Mamp stack and therefore primarily a development package.
