to ResourceSpace
Hi all,

I set up a copy of ResourceSpace over the past few weeks, and today for the first time showed it to the colleagues with whom I am going to use it.
We were all blown away by the power, beauty and ease of use of the whole thing - from setup, through entering stuff, to finding it.
I have tried several similarly feature-rich solutions that are very powerful and all, but using them was never fun!
ResourceSpace is.
My heartfelt thanks very much to everyone who made this possible.
I will suggest our company make a donation.
Does RS accept donations, or are there other channels through which to do it good - say, by starting a feature bounty? Where would I do that, here on the list?
Or would a donation to Oxfam be appropriate? I have no idea how much of what RS is today was funded by them.

Cheers,
Pekka

Hi,

Thanks for the positive feedback!

There are currently two main businesses focused specifically on developing the open-source ResourceSpace, Dan Huby's company (Montala) and mine (Buildadam). There are many other developers and companies involved as well, but we are the two main maintainers of the code.

Payments to support general development are always welcome of course (...for developers, since there is always random work and fixing to do, pure generosity toward general development is a great way to support the project and motivate us to keep improving the product where we see fit based on experience).

Otherwise, to make sure something specific gets done in your interests, you can contract developments with either Dan or me, or any other developer depending on who's appropriate to do the job in question.

I was writing a reply, but Tom pretty much said what I was going to say!

The one thing I would add is that there are also other things that need doing that are less technical in nature -- for example, I think it would be great for someone to take a look at the state of the documentation and see what can be done to improve it. I know the PDF manual has not been updated in a few years, and I think the documentation that's on the wiki is at times a bit inconsistent. So if there are folks who would like to help with this end of things, that would also be great.

In any case, I'm glad you like ResourceSpace!

Thanks for your replies guys!
I will talk to my superiors about a general donation.

@David, that is an interesting idea as well. I'm not promising anything because I'm up to my eyeballs in work, but I might get around to doing something here.
The PDF guide looks pretty darn good. Is there an original around that one could use to update to the latest version of the software?

Most realistically, because I'll need to set up some documentation anyway, I might be able to do a translation of the PDF into German. Is there any need for that in the  community? Would it be a useful addition to the project?
