Hi, I am trying to configure ResourceSpace as a front-end server in
the DMZ and have all the data in the internal network. Is there a way
to tell ResourceSpace to use a remote filestore located on a remote
windows file server? Something like '\\server_name\Shared_Resource' or
a mapping drive 'T:\Z\ResourceFolder1' I have tried in the config.php
file without success.
Thanks in advance

Hi,

what examples did you try in config.php (or config.default.php for
that matter), the options for the filestore are on line 102-104 of the
default config file. Did you try those in your config.php?

did you try the $storagedir and $storageurl configs? You will most likely have to mount the remote folder locally first.

generally the filestore folder goes in the root of the installation, and I believe those configs apply if you want to change that. But, if you're going to mount a remote folder as filestore, you can just mount it in the root of the installation as 'filestore', I would think.

In Linux I just create a symbolic link named "filestore" in the root
of the installation that points to wherever the storage is mounted.

Hi again. I did try with $storagedir and $storageurl but did not
manage to get it.
Installation check says that the filestore is not writable, but is is,
and I can only make it work if I use a local drive.
Thanks.

What OS are you using?

I am afraid it could be something related to permissions... Could
anyone tell me which is the user account of the IIS in Windows 7?
Thank you very much in advance.

On a Windows 7 or Server 2008 machine you'll want to create a symbolic
link as duckydan suggested. Here's how, assuming your current store
is c:\inetpub\wwwroot\resourcespace\filestore

Use MKLINK to create a symbolic link and move the RS filestore to
another drive or location other than the default.

1. Create a new folder where you'd like the RS filestore to go.
Example: d:\resourcespace\filestore

2. Rename the original RS filestore folder to something else.
Example filestore-old

3. If previous data existed, copy the contents from the old filestore
location to the new.

4. Open a command prompt and navigate to the c:\inetpub\wwwroot
\resourcespace folder

5. Run the following command:

mklink /d c:\inetpub\wwwroot\resourcespace\filestore d:\resourcespace
\filestore

This will create a new filestore folder under c:\inetpub\wwwroot
\resourcespace. The folder will have an arrow on it. To Windows or
any application this looks like a folder instead of shortcut.

Hope this helps,
John

I should mention, don't try to do this in the config.php on a Windows
system. Also make sure to have your drive mapping created before hand
on the machine (T:\Z\ResourceFolder1), and start off by giving the
"everyone" group full access to that folder. Once your filestore is
moved and working properly you can back off the permissions a bit and
try giving only the IUSR_machinename user account access.

Thanks,
John
