I've been migrating a RS installation (9.0) to a new server RS (9.5). I thought I was near completion but have noticed an issue with some of the metadata text. The data was originally uploaded as UTF-8 text as recommended by RS. Exporting the data from the MySQL database was done using UTF-8 and the import to the new database was also UTF-8.

So
1. Existing data in RS - displays as expected to extra characters
2. Export from MySQL tables - output text has extra characters
3. Import to new database
4. New data in RS shows extra characters

The characters seem to appear before (around ?) characters like single quotes , copyright symbols etc

Has anyone come across this ?
Is there any benefits in using MySQLdump rather than import/export?

see attached image for examples

Hi Sandy,

Why you dont update the version instead of migrating, you can do a copy of the current 9.0 site and dump of the BBDD just to be sure you can recover in case of any issue and then update using svn.. i guess is the best way to do that

you can convert an installation is not a Svn repository in one before to update

In any case, i guess will work better the dump instead export/import

regards
