We didn't experience these with v10.6. My guess is that there's config options (either via the back-end web interface for System->Configuration or in the config.php file) for dealing with these things that just need to be set properly, but I couldn't find anything relating to these issues for either of these things, nor could I find any discussions in here about them, so I figured I'd ask :)

Here are the problems:
  1. The search results thumbnails now only show the thumbnail itself, the type of file, the checkbox for selecting the resource, and the "Add to Collection" icon. They used to show a couple additional icons (such as "Remove from Collection". I know with RS11 those additional "things you can do" are being moved into a "three dots" icon for each thumbnail, so maybe what I'm seeing is something laying the groundwork for that?
  2. (And this is by far the more annoying/problematic one)...there appears to be some sort of timeout happening when I look at the modal "viewer" page (the one with the Download options and whatnot) when I click on one of the search result thumbnails, because that "viewer" page after 5-10 seconds or so goes away entirely, dumping me back at the search results page. This is super-annoying because the timeout period stays the same even if I use the < and > icons to move to the previous/next "viewer" page, so right in the middle of me clicking through and browsing the resources, what I'm doing will go away entirely.
  3. (Most likely related to #2) Sometimes, if I have a particularly lengthy amount of search results and I've scrolled the search results thumbnails page down partway, it'll "time out" and jump back to the top of that page. I haven't yet figured out a way to make this happen every time, though...so it may be something relating to whatever's making #2 happen.
Any ideas?

We did some more testing (and some Google searching), and can eliminate one possible problem: the PHP.init's max_execution_time variable. That was set to 30 seconds, and just to see what happened our IS guy changed it to 60 seconds, but there was no noticeable impact on the #2/#3 problem.

For #1, I did find that there is now a config.php change to show/hide the extra icons and that they now default to "hidden", so that can be easily fixed. It's the other (#2/#3) that's still a mystery :)

One more possible data point for this...a band-aid fix for this has been per-use to go in to their preferences and disable the "Resource View Modal" (just search in the preferences for "modal" and you'll find it).

But, I happened to have to go do something else on my second monitor and left an RS "viewer" page up on the screen, and I noticed that, every 5-6 seconds (I timed several...I'm not pulling those numbers out of my head or anything) there appears to be a "pulse" that I think is triggering the browser window to refresh itself and I think that might be the culprit for the window-closing thing. I again couldn't find anything related in the config file or anything, but I'm thinking if we can determine what's triggering that "pulse", then the problems will be solved. Since our RS is on a new server, I'm inclined to think that maybe it's some sort of PHP setting or something, but I'm not sure...
