Hi all,

Does anyone out there runs RS with Lighttpd webserver? Lighty [http://
www.lighttpd.net/] runs php trough fast cgi, which is definitively a
speed boost. I'm wondering if RS will complain in that case.

I'm in the process of setting up my company development environment
and Lighttpd came to my mind, so I asked to myself: why not?!?
Besides, our boxes runs VMware ESXi (virtualization layer) with 64
bits Debian 5 (Lenny) virtual machines. It will be a really nice
experience on the RS scalability field.

Any tips and or tricks on RS under Lighttpd are welcome. I let you
know of what happened here as soon as I finish to set everything up.

Best,

I haven't tried it, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

Personally I've never had a reason to move away from Apache. Unless
you are running very high traffic sites I doubt you'd notice a
performance difference with another web server?

Hummm. I see. I'm finishing the box setup. I have two main motivations
for this:

1) Scale.
2) Keep small footprint in the box.

My feeling is that this can be achieved with a tiny Linux distro setup
(like Debian is), lighty, php5-cgi and mysql. This will left much more
room for complex stuff such as users fiddling around, H264 HD
transcoding and so on.

It would be nice if you could provide some parameters so we can
compare both environments (apache vs lighty).

Best,

DD.

Yes! It runs! Lightning fast!

I had no time yet for benchs, but that's on my plans. I'll reply here
as soon as I get them.

Best,

DD.
