Meta data field is not indexed / reindex does not work

Hello,

I searched in the forums here, no solution found. I have a problem with a meta data field, that is not displayed correctly in search results (thumbsnails, config.php has the corresponding field number). Image attached for illustration.

1) I updated an existing one (license) for many images and hit reindex. Reindexing is done in half a second, what is quite unrealistic. Indexing is allowed. Database shows the old value, metadata in RS show the new value. When I edit the field in the database directly, it shows up like expected. So there must be a problem with writing information to the DB (reindexing?), i guess.
The field was classified for the resource type photo, but that should not matter.

2) I tried a workaround and created a news meta data field, because the field from 1) was imported from an earlier installation - you knever know. Same problems with this field.

I tried database pruning, but this should not really help and doesn't work (made it to another post here...).

Is the reindexing actually finding values?

When you manually change the db, what tables are you adjusting?

Is the reindexing actually finding values?

How can I see this? Logfiles? Reindexing seems to be damaged on some fields (I did not test all of them) - when I start it, it is done after 500ms or so. Shall I do it for all fields? Should be only a matter of time.

When you manually change the db, what tables are you adjusting?

The custom fields at the image in the table "resource" - image attached.

Sorry, when my information is not detailed enough, I can go after it with some hint/suggestion.

more precise: I changed field 84 in the screen manually. Field 73 is the old one for license purposes, that I abandoned and that can be deleted. But I don't know the right script so far - it is deleted in RS.

Regarding the update question: There is no newer version of RS on the web site. Did you suggest to try a release candidate or a beta?

RS 8.1 is actually at 10341 now. If you have pulled a release version you can run an svn up to get any fixes added after the initial 8.1 release.

Hello Allison,

back again with the upgrade to 8.2 and two subversion testing environments (8.2, trunk).

Unfortunately, the problem persists. Unlike with other field-related problems, the usual reindex oder update tools do not work (update-previews, reindex_field, update_exiftool_field). Especially the update of the exiftool fields, that helped a lot by other struggles, will not work here, because the license field is a custom field for us.

So at the moment it looks like this:

1. The not working/too fast (< 1sec) reindexing seems to affect all fields, which are not connectet with an exiftool field. It this the normal behaviour or should there be longer reindexing process?
2. The issue is still, what I described initially - I changed the value of a field for many images on the server, the changed value is written in the database and shown in detail view (click on image), but does not update in the thumbnail view/list views.
   
3. When uploading new images with setting the value in the upload dialogue (it's a mandatory field), the value is correctly written and shows up.
   

Do you have an ideal, where I should look further for the catch? Or do I think wrong in some way?

Do you run cron.php or cron_copy_hitcount.php regularly? You can see the last time this was run in the installation check section and is labeled ‘Last scheduled task execution’. If this doesn’t show a low number you should run batch/cron.php, which should be set up to run regularly.

Then, see if the indexing is better. If you can report back that would be great!

i run cron.php by hand at the moment (just have to fix the crontab), every 1 or 2 days or when there are problems. Unfortunately, it didn't help. Results are attached.
I had to change the drop down menu options for the field license again yesterday, so i have a fresh scenario with this problem.

Just for illustration some more screens - field definition, field options and a thumb view: first three items uploaded after changing the field options, last three before with old, not refreshed field options.

If there is any other attempt, I should try, please let me know. I still have to play arount with release candidate and trunk as a comparison.
