I have set up a RS system where the Featured Collections page is used by different users to easily upload their data (they upload into their own dedicated virtual folders and create subfolders, then afterwards they add their metadata).

I would like to display a link to this Featured Collections page for users who are logged in to
the system. But as I also have enabled users who are not logged in to access the site, I'd prefer to hide the menu item for them.

Is it possible to hide menu items for certain user groups, for example in the config file?

It would probably take some custom coding.

If there were a way to assign User- or User Group-specific plugins creating a CSS plugin that would make the visibility of the link hidden should do the trick. I'm not aware of any way to assign plugins to specific groups though. . .

Thanks, yes that would make sense.

In the meantime I have simply created a home page tile containing the Featured Collections link, targeted to all user groups except for the 'public' user group.

Update: today I found a way of hiding certain featured collections for specific user groups.

In the user group permissions for the group of non logged-in users, I have now disabled viewing all collections apart from one that is aimed at the non logged-in users.
The others are off limits to them, and require one to log in before they even see the folders and folder structure.

It's still not possible to totally hide the featured collections link from the menu, but since the public user will still find some content in there, it's actually OK.
