All:

I have recently discovered Resource Space, and have it running on a virtual machine for evaluation. All in all, I think it is going to meet my needs, except for one thing. I would like to use it with very large, images - microscope slides scanned using a microscope slide scanner (JP2 or TIF). Some of these images are up to around 1.5GB. Because of the size of these images, I thought it would be best to have some kind of server side image viewer, so a user would not have to download each image they would like to look at. I've looked at the Resource Space Plugins and have Googled around for  viewers of this type.
What I envision is the development of a plugin (or a server side extension, or something):
1. Integrating OpenSlide.org viewer
2. Integrating IIPImage
3. Integrating OpenSeaDragon
or possibly.
4. Contact Montala for Paid Development

I have done some *light* PHP programming in the past. I'd be willing to give this a go on my own, but I fear I'll probably be in way over my head (but it might be kind of fun nonetheless - but I'll probably be in way over my head).
1. I'm also wondering if anyone else has had a need for something like this, and might be working on something of their own?
2. I'm also wondering if using the system with images this large will eventually cause the database to crash.

Anyway, lots of questions, and  this may be a pipe dream, but I thought it would be worthwhile posting this in the group.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for any responses,
Austin

There is a MagicTouch plugin in the repository that does this.

It uses a third party service - there's a free ad-supported version
but the paid versions don't seem too expensive.

Bear in mind that ResourceSpace will already create small previews
including a full screen preview that fits within an 800 x 800 pixel
box - that might be good enough for user inspection? (you can
configure the system to create larger full screen previews also).

I hope that helps.

I use MagicTouch Image Zoomer on my installs and it is great.

I saw that plugin but did not want to have to sign up. However, since
I received two suggestions for it, right off the bat, I decided it was
worth a try.

Thanks to both of you. Right now, I am just testing ResourceSpace on a
Virtual Machine, and I think MagicTouch might not work with my current
setup:

From magictoolbox.com:
(images must be accessible over the internet, not your local site)

It looks like testing may not be possible with my current set up. Any
thoughts?

Thanks,
Austin

I think you will just need to wait until your site is live. Not sure of any other way since this is Magic Touch's API.

I have some interest in developing a tool that would allow ResourceSpace to create image tiles for zoomify/seadragon. But I have not really had a chance to work on it so far.

If I recall, I have seen reference code out there in Python that could perhaps be ported to PHP and integrated into ResourceSpace.

Doesn't really help your immediate situation, but did want to give a shout out to the idea, since it's something I've also been thinking about.
