Just wanted to share my experience with installing on my web host. It was pretty easy, but there were a couple of things that I got hung up on that I thought I'd share to help out the next person to try and do this...

  1. First off I downloaded the latest .zip from http://www.resourcespace.org/get
  2. Then I connected to my host via FTP client and uploaded the ZIP file.
  3. I then went into my host's cpanel utility and using the file manager I navigated to where I uploaded the zip and after selecting the zip file I hit extract
  4. While in cpanel I created a new MySQL DB and a MySQL user and assigned that user with full access to the newly created DB

The first tricky (or at least not obvious to me) part was to figure out how to get the filestore indexing turned off:
  • In cpanel I went to "Index Manager" and navigated to the "filestore" folder and selected "No Indexing"

The next tricky (or at least not obvious to me) part was to get Exiftool working
  • First I went to http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ and downloaded the latest .tar.gz version listed at the top of the page.
  • Then I uncompressed all the files and in the resulting folder there was the exiftool binary and the "lib" folder
  • I FTP'd the exiftool binary and the "lib" folder to the "bin" folder at the root of my web host. Then I enabled "execute" permissions for exiftool.
Next I navigated to my ResourceSpace install via the web and followed the wizard to install.
Then once I got through that I opened the config.php file in the resource space "include" folder
I set the path of the $exiftool_path variable to the full path to the exiftool binary I had uploaded and voila! working exiftool.

Hope this saves someone some time when they go to do their install on a shared web hosted server.

Thanks,
Troy
