First: Is there a way to create say a text file that has a list of
allowable keywords? Along with this can there be some sort of
dropdown box that allows you to append keywords and possible delete
them all without typing?

Second question: Is there a way to not show the extra fields that are
present when you upload content? I am only looking to display the
fields which are "required" for uploading content.

Thanks

in config you can make an array of fields that are non-editable, and
they don't show up upon upload - but they are also non-editable
elsewhere. would that be ok for you? if so, that's your answer to
your second question.

I don't believe there is a way to incorporate a controlled vocabulary
in ResourceSpace. I think the best method is to develop fixed list
metadata fields to control the input of metadata as much as possible,
and then educate your users as to the vocabulary you would like them
to use at input.

you can make the keywords field a dropdown list with static values.
admin->system config->global fields, but thats not from a text field

second: you can surpress any field for user groups
have a look at admin->system config->usergroups->permissions.
A group of users (lets name em contributors) will see only the
fields thy're allowed to.
Other groups may have other rights and see different views of information.

Ok that sounds like a good solution. Would it corrupt anything if I
added items to these lists after the database has been established?
If I needed a new category, can I add it without screwing anything up?

Thanks

You can add keywords without consequence, but you have to be careful
about changing existing ones.

There is a utility called Manage Field Options which is supposed to
migrate resource data automatically if you change an option; however,
it appears to insert an i18n string unnecessarily and for the moment
you might be better off doing it manually by:

adding your changed option to the list, selecting all resources with
the old keyword, and then edit them to include the new keyword. Then
delete the old option.

I second Tom's comment above. I tried changing a field value in the
Manage Field Options list but it didn't seem to work properly. If
there is a way to get this to work I think it would be a great advance
for RS.
