Exiftool, Lightroom and ResourceSpace

Is there a guide for mapping Lightroom metadata fields to ResourceSpace using Exiftool? I have Exiftool installed in RS but I'm a bit stumped on how to get some of the less commonly used fields in LR mapping to RS.

For example, I'd like to map the fields in Lightroom under IPTC (Creator, Job Title, Address, City, State / Province, Country, Phone, Email, Website) to a custom field in RS I have name 'Contact details'. 

I find the Exiftool documentation hard to understand and I'm interested to hear if others have some ideas on how to achieve this.

This can be tricky as it is not always clear which underlying EXIF/IPTC/XMP tags are being used by Lightroom - the names are not always the same.

It might help to upload a resource then use the metadata report on the resource view page, enabled via config.php by adding '$metadata_report=true', which will display all embedded metadata and how ResourceSpace currently maps those fields.

Hey Jeremy I'm not using RS anymore but I have fairly strong experience with Lightroom and exiftool and metadata massaging in general.

 I'm not sure I totally get what you're after here... Are you trying to merge several IPTC fields into one field in resourcespace? I would recommend you would probably want to keep the db fields discreet and just change the display on the page which is easily done in the HTML/PHP.

Or maybe I am just misunderstanding!

Feel free to write back if you want to give me some more info.

Thanks Dan - that's very helpful and I'm working my way through the fields at the moment.

One thing that I can't figure out is if multiple fields can be mapped to a single field in RS?

In this case the fields are creator, creatorworkemail, creatorworkurl, creatoraddress etc

I believe if you map multiple exiftool tags to a field, the last one with a value gets to input the field value, and then exiftool will try to write that value to all the tags mapped to that field.

You can't concatenate tag values to a ResourceSpace field AFAIK
