I think it is not finding the blender program...
Make sure you have blender installed, (it will probably go in /usr/bin)

then in imagemagick.php line ~191:

$blendercommand="blender";

try:

$blendercommand="/usr/bin/blender";

yes.
path to blender and executable set in default.php
$blender_path = 'usr/bin'
$blender_executable = 'blender'

yeah, thats what it is.
sorry about that.

if i could start over, what are the changes needed to a clean RS install to get blender thumbs working?

Maybe i asked for too much?

i just thought, since you are an authority on the subject, you'd be the one to ask.

Maybe you could link me to an answer?

(thank you for your time so far)

I was able to track down the blender render bit, and ive stumbled onto a new error.
in the terminal i get the following.

compiled with python version 2.6.6.
checking for installed python... got it
ERROR: cannot render 263 file
segmentation fault

so, blender is being found. the problem is not resource space?
is it blender?
what is the working version?
im confused.

It should be noted that the code for .blend file support is a very simple command line and in preview_preprocessing.php around line 399. It was also developed prior to blender 2.5 which was a total rewrite, although I recently tested it with blender 2.5+ on the server and it worked.

So it looks like a problem on the blender side for you.

Is it possible 263 refers to a blender file version? 2.63 would make sense if it's a version compatibility issue because they are at 2.65 now, though .blend files are amazingly forward and backward compatible last I knew, so that's just a guess.

Also, can you render the file with F12 from inside your server's Blender?
