We have a number of collections in our RS.

I want to be able to limit a user to searching within a single collection only.

For Example we have a collection that contains royalty free images taken from other collections. I want to be able to limit a user to searching only within that single collection so that they do not get access to non royalty free items.

Is this possible ?

You can accomplish this with themes.
First, you need to make sure you have themes enabled.
Make your collection of royalty free images into a public collection and give it a theme name.
Then, use the "j" permissions in group setting to allow your groups to see the theme category. Be sure to also set the "J" permission, limiting search results to resources within accessible themes.

Your other option is to use the group's search filter area to force results to include specific data within a given field. This method would be nice if all your royalty free images were tagged as such. You can find specifics on how to do this from the wiki (though it seems to be down right now). There should also be enough information within other group postings to get you through.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, this direction seems like it would allow searching within only one collection/theme. But what if one wanted users to be able to search within multiple collections (one at a time), and not just have access to only one collection/theme?  Is there some way to make Theme or Collection a field option within Advanced Search? Thx!

You can View All in the Collection and then use the refineresults plugin to drill down your search within that collection.

As a search string, it would be !collection123,keyword1,keyword2

Does that answer your question?

Thanks Tom!  Yes!  That definitely worked.  Although I know some folks on our team would like to be able to not only perform a search within each collection but to filter by asset type, or by any other standardized drop downs we have created.  Do you know of a way to do that?
