Followed Ubuntu directions, and directions to create DB users (read and read/write) and assign table permissions. Tested DB users and passwords via phpmyadmin and can login and have correct permissions.

File ownership set to me:www-data and permissions on all files/folders provide correct access.

The Setup page reports all is well. All binaries are found, etc.

Hitting dbtest.php with the read and read/write users and credentials correctly delivers a good 200 response.

/includes/config.php is written, but no DB tables are created.

See the last post in 'Fresh install Table 'your_db_name.plugins' doesn't exist' - looks like your issues may stem from Ubuntu 22.04.

I had problems running ResourceSpace under Ubuntu 22.04 until I installed and configured Ubuntu to use PHP 8.0 as the default PHP on the system. ResourceSpace now runs fine under Ubuntu 22.04.

Meaning, the issue is with PHP 8.1, but works okay literally with PHP 8.0?

I can confirm that downgrading from PHP 8.1 to PHP 8.0.19 resolved the installer issues. I followed this post to downgrade: https://medium.com/@skounis/downgrade-php8-1-to-php8-0-or-php7-4-on-ubuntu-22-04-2fab4a6a3be3

You sir, are my hero. Confirmed working on M1 mac running Monterey with 9.8 and all the latest homebrew packages *except* php. I had to roll back to 7.4, as version 8.0 was still offending.
