Hi,

After being able to run the 'php staticsync.php' command once, I tried
it again and it keeps saying :"Process lock is in place. Deferring."

I even rebooted the server, and it keeps saying that. How can I
prevent this from happening?

Thanks,
Tom

Look in filestore/tmp/process_locks and delete what's there (probably a static_sync file).

That file gets created on staticsync start and is deleted when staticsync exits normally.  If it runs into an error and bombs out, the file will be left behind.  This is how RS keeps that process somewhat singular.

That worked! Thank you!

Now it bombs out again though saying : "/image_processing.php line
252: shell_exec(): Cannot execute using backquotes in Safe Mode"

That's a php config thing.  Looks like you (or your provider) has php running in safe mode?  Can you edit your server's php.ini file and turn safe mode off?  See: http://www.serverschool.com/dedicated-servers/what-is-php-safe-mode/

And that's also why you end up with the lingering lock file.

That's what I thought as well, but Safe mode is off in php.ini.

It's a synology NAS, and i read somewhere that while safe mode is off
in php.ini there's still a restriction on executing system commands.
Very weird. I don't know where to start looking.

Are you hosting the web server?  Is safe mode on in the httpd_config file?  See: http://www.crucialp.com/resources/tutorials/server-administration/customizing-php-safe-mode.php

I don't think it has anything to do with the NAS box (unless the NAS box is the Apache server also).  Is this a linux machine?  You've checked your phpinfo to see if it says safe mode on or off?

Yes, it's a Synology server sitting right next to my computer.

There's no virtual server defined in httpd_config, and thus nowhere to
turn safe mode on or off in it. I need to be careful because this
server is running a lot of services. I sent Synology a support request
but I'm not sure if they're going to come back to me on this. I'm not
sure if I can define my own virtual server in the httpd file without
messing up something else.
