Notes About the plug-in.
The Power of the plug-in its based on the flash player created for this propose from scratch and the success of the clipping is based on the preview format, that for the best results must be mp4 with h264 encoded. here you go a ffmpeg string you can use like that in your system, in that way mp4 files will have enough seek points to can select In and Out marks on the video files.

I guess that will work even better if we could implement yamdi as meta data inserter in the upload process but we consider to approach to this in a second step.
Using the plug-in.
Once the plug-in is Activated you see in the search page that the video resources has a new icon in the bottom left corner, that the icon to access to the clipping tool, and if you click on this icon you will go to the Clipping edit page where you will have the video player, the clip tagging field and some other fields like TC IN, TC OUT and current.
Once you have Activated the plug-in you will see that the View page in case the resource will be a video or a clip (the clip resource has a new icon on the upper right corner) has a new player in that case its just a player but is a event managed player for features I explained below.
The player can be controlled by events and events can be triggered by keyboard, so this KB events will work, be sure the focus is on the 'Clip Time Code' field of the page
The KB short cats to control the player are as follow:
CTRL+ENTER Play /pause the video
CTRL+I Mark IN
CTRL+O Mark OUT
CTRL+SPACE Take Time code over the tagging window, pause the video and let you write to tag the video.
ALT+ENTER 'Add Clip'
CTRL+Right Cursor move some frames forward
CTRL+Left Cursor move some frames back
CTRL+Up Cursor move some frames( bigger steps) Forward
CTRL+Up Cursor move some frames( bigger steps) Back
ALT+Up Cursor move some frames( even bigger steps) Forward
ALT+Up Cursor move some frames( even bigger steps) Back
The way to proceed with this features are as follow:
Video tagging:
Is possible the user just want to tag de video, in that case, once the video is loaded in the player we focus on the Video time Code, and press CTRL+Enter, the video start to play when we want to do an annotation press CTRL+SPACE, the video will be paused and TC will be write in the text box and now we can type whatever we like about the shot. repeat the process. Once we are happy with the annotation we press "SEND" and the video will be saved and the test will be indexed.
To review the annotation, click on the video resource to see the View page of this resource and note you will have a new player on the page and the text you introduced before. Lets do some browsing over the video, Select any time code text over the view page with the mouse or do a triple click over a text line in the Time Code field text and the video will go to that frame, and of course you can do play from that point.
Clipping:
The process of create clips its very similar to the video tagging, but this time we will mark IN and OUT points over the video, and use the field Clip Time Code to tag the clip information so you can do that in different ways:
You can use the mouse to move the IN and OUT mark over the player bar and you will see the IN and OUT thumbs will be updated. Use the small white box over the blue line to mark the CURRENT TC, that's the frame will be used as Thumbnail and preview for the resources.
Another way to that is Focus on the Clip Time Code field, press CTRL+Enter to play the video, press CTRL+I on the frame we want to start the clip, press CTRL+SPACE to tag some frames along the clip and press CTRL+O to mark the out of the clip, then press CTRL+ENTER 'Add Clip'. Select another clip and press 'Add Clip' create as many clips you want and when you will be finished press 'Send' and the clips will be send to the system, the resources will be created, thumbs will be extracted and put in place, you can now search or do a 'Recent' and see new resources types in your RS.

We will delivered a new version so soon where you can use the player in a float window and you can tag the video and clips separately.

I'll check it out.
BTW: I have yamdi integrated already. The reason why I added it was that I was having trouble "scrubbing" through video (no keyframes were being added). Since then, Tom and others have shown me that they don't need yamdi for the keyframes and scrubbing works on their systems (Ubuntu). Since it works for them, they have no reason to add the code to the base. So, I'll give it to you. It's easy in that you have to replace a single file and it checks your config.php for the necessary variables or it skips the yamid code gracefully. Find the necessary file attached and add the following to config.php:
$yamdi_path = '/usr/bin';
Also in this file is the option to set $ffmpeg_preview_seconds = 0 to create full length previews.

as Tom said i dont have troubles to scrub neither even on flv preview
or mp4 when i scbrub i see the video smooth scrubing all the time, but
when we try a frame accurate aproach for the plugin, we notice that
flv generare keyframes as mp4 generate seek points and even when we
are using no so big gop '-g 12' for the ffmpeg parameters line, we
found that the ffmpeg use the Moov Atom and Data Atom at the end of
the file, so thats is an issue when try to read the header of the file
at the beginign of the file or need to wait till file is loaded in the
player. so we was forces to use qtfaststart to corect that while yamdi
inject the metadata and create the header at the begining, but in
other hand, im not be able to use yamdi with .mp4 file esxtension, so
i must to try your code to see if i can do the preview in .flv format.

BTW i have also reasy the Final Cut XML export of a collection, and in
the case you use final cut, i guess could be very usefull, so i guess
you use a San enviromen where Filestore and editing storage is the
same, and in this case, the proces using the clipping plug-in woudl be
like that, create as many clips you want, add to a collection and
Export to Final Cut, thats generate one XML file that is a Bin for
final, you darg this xml in final and you got all the clips or videos
in your bin, drag to timeline and edit.
Once you have tested the clipping, let me know if wanna try with
FinalCut Export plugin

Thank you for the offer of the Final Cut plugin. I would like to try
it, although my situation is a bit different.
I have two SANs, with different hardware. The filestore dir lives on
slower, iSCSI based storage (right now jumbo-framed gig ethernet, but
will move to FC soon), while the SAN for editing is a much faster
Promise Vtrak (future Avid Unity) SAN. I do it this way since I don't
need a super-fast san for resourcespace, but I do need one for HD
editing. This is also why I authored the "media manager" plugin so
that I can mount both SANs on the resourcespace server and move files
in bulk using the FC infrastructure instead of downloading from RS
over gigabit ethernet, then uploading to the SAN using FC.
Does the plugin allow you to move the files, or does it just create
XML path information?

I just want to share my first experience with the plugin:
- In your installation desciption (first post) you ask to create a
"Time code" resource of the clip type while in the previous line you
tell us to create it in the video resource type. It's a little
confusing because I'm wondering now which resourcetype I have to
choose (Clip or video?)
- After creating some ins and outs, you ask to press the "SEND"
button.... I tried my best to find it but with no success :-)
- The player has to buffer for about 5 seconds before starting to
play, is that the case for anyone else?
- I used your ffmpeg settings, but that resulted in not creating a
preview at all. Just a single frame thumbnail. I checked the process
in windows and ffmpeg doesn't even start. Any clue what I might have
done wrong?
- There's one thing I miss with the player, a Full-screen option. Is
that possible in the future?
So far great plugin with some amazing potential!!!

I found the solution for ffmpeg settings, you just have to change kb by KB for the last option.
For the rest I have the same remarks, I could not use the plugin, and the keyboard shortcuts don't work.

I understand perfectly so that's the situation of the most of our
customer, we use EditShare (intead Avid Unitiy SAN) because we represent
that manufacture for Spain, i suggest you to take a look on EditShare if
your editing system is FCP so EditShare has aditional functionality over
Unity, let me know if you want to have a local contact to have some
information about that product, but this is another history.
About the moving data, that's my next planning plug-in, so for us the
wished scenario would be if RS manage the alternative for video in the
same way do the Different Sizes/Previews for Photo, so we can define a
format for any different video sizes and even more can define different
FileStore for any video size, so as you say HD and SD have so different
requirements and the cost of the hardware is significant different. At
the same time, i would like to approach to a HSM (Hierarchical Storage
Manager) plug-in to manage the live cycle of the r
resources along of a on line storage, near on line storage and even off
line storage, solutions like Xendata, Diskextender or DMF fro SGI are
high expensive for small production houses enviroments. The idea of the
backup is not flexible enought so i would like to have different
criteria to move the media from one storage to another and would be
great to have the feature to keep diferent video quality on diferent
storage, so i can have a low cost drives for the preview, low cost also
for HQ archive and Expensive drives with high throughput drives for HD
editing media
when I get all this transfer process controlled in the RS will be easy
for me to know the path of any video format and IO can use that
information to write the XML for FC

What configuration are you using for the video preview files? if you
are using the standar configuratio of RS preview the files will be FLV
files and not optimal to use with the Clipping plug in. We will review
the Paul Yamdi implementation to try to optimize that.
Thats is my preview configuration and its work fine for me:

I changed the preview extension from mp4 to flv and it works again.
Still need to test the behaviour of the commandline when I upload
something new."
For anyone who has the same problem just change:

Probably work, but take long time, its on depend of the file format of
the preview, so wee need to find the file header before to start to work
and flash video and h264 video could have the header at the beginning or
at the end of the file.
That's why I recommended to use mp4 for the preview file.
Now i will try to use the Yamdi with the page Paul sent to me and ill
let you know about the results

Did you try to tag in the video field taking some TC with CTRL+SPACE
and write some text and SEND to have some indexded text in the video,
so when you go to View Page select a textline with TC and see how the
player go to that frame? Would be that useful for you??
Im trying to imagine diefrent use enviroment and of course we will
listen sugestions about new features on the plugin.

How do I go about changing the gif for the title image to a png?
-The reason is that I have difficulties getting my desired logo file
look correct when saved as a gif, unless I choose a background color ...
Antialiasing against transparent background works many folds better with
png for obvious reasons (24-bit colors instead of 8-bit) ...

logo.png, rename the logo.png to title.gif and override the old one,
thats should work, remember clean cache in the web browser

Yes, im Agree with Dan, DV files must work, i guess you choose .dv files based on the non linear editting system you gonna use them
I´m loading .dv files generates with ffmpeg. Maybe .dv extension is not activated by default to be recofnized as video.
Where can I check that?

clips dont generate any media now, just a thumbnail, clips are timecode
references only.

well, but no the clip, was those clips generate before you adjust the
preview format? in that case those clips are looking for a diferent
preview file, try to generate a new clip from a video you can put in
play and let me know if you can play clip

planned to do a new ingest tool for RS so we manage the offset to work
