Hi

When viewing the User Log from Manage Users, users clicking on 'Page 2', 'Next', or entering page number manually, are sent to a 404 page.

This happens when I set IE10 to use IE8 and IE8 Standards mode.  But does not occur in Chrome or IE10.

We have several issues in IE8 with IE8 Standards mode.  With the browser back button and other niggly issues.  These errors disappear when you change IE8 with 'IE8 Standards' mode to IE8 with plain 'Standards' mode (or Quirks mode).   The error also occurs in IE9 and IE9 Standards mode.  And occurs with IE10 with IE8 Standards mode.  (but never in plain 'Standards' mode in any version.)

In fact all the errors we are seeing in IE8 Standards mode would disappear if 'Standards' mode were forced.

The dominant browser in the environment in which RS will be used ... is IE8 and IE8 Standards mode.  There is very little chance that the IT department will allow the use of a different browser or different version.  Currently they are testing RS, and are very confused because when they hit the back button they are taken back to the login page or some other page... I've tried it and it's totally disorientating and feels so random... compared to all the other browsers and most other websites.

Since IE8 is still one of the browsers that websites should provide compatibility for... is there any chance this might be corrected or a workaround put in place?  (forcing Standards? or Quirks? mode)

Oliver

Dang, this doesn't sound good!  Yes we are intending to support IE8.

Please always report what version you are using, to avoid the inevitable follow up question, asking what version you're using!  : )

From the ResourceSpace site - under Features - it is claimed Internet Explorer back to version 7... - so it might be frustrating to get as far with an installation only to find it's not working as it does in other browsers...

Is there any way to force plain Standards mode and avoid 'IE8 standards'? ... in a meta tag?  or other directive?

Of RS?  the latest
Browsers ... I use all of them and am testing in all versions.  My original comment above explained the differences between the versions.

The user base however, is  ~80-90%..  IE8 with IE8 Standards.

but it's been doing funny things in IE8 with IE8 Standards since version long before version 4362... as I have reported it before on these groups..  since Ajax was added...

I'm not sure we should be supporting IE8 now that IE10 is out.

Google docs, for example, only supports the two most recent versions
of major browsers, so I don't think they even claim support for IE8
anymore, and suggest using a different browser if you're stuck on an
old Windows OS:

Thank you Oliver, sorry to frustrate you with my question about version. I see now you've reported this for a while.

This is a strong point, Tom. Unfortunately a lot of IT departments are over-cautious and don't upgrade in a timely way. I lean toward your conclusion though.

Regarding IE7... Perhaps we can all agree this is an insecure and suboptimal environment to support?

I think IE7 should go... :-)  and IE8...

But unfortunately .. and typically... it is the councils and government computers that are the slowest to conform.

And they are not budging from IE8 for a while yet probably.  Their are also many organisations who prevent IE from being automatically upgraded.  Just because there is a new version out, it does not mean you can stop supporting old versions..

Especially in companies that do not have enough money to update their computers... who might use Open Source DAM apps.. they'll still be using XP until they have to change, and XP won't upgrade to IE9.

I can confirm that r4483 has this issue under IE8. And concur that large RS corporate user we support with a worldwide operation still has IE8 as standard, but fortunately for us have permitted RS users to upgrade because of a few issues we encountered.

It would appear that under IE8 the URL being formed points to /pages/team_user_log.php which doesn't exist instead of /pages/team/team_user_log.php where it should be going. Back button always takes you back to the login screen but it works correctly under later browsers.

Hi Tim

That behaviour with the Back button can be eliminated by pressing F12 for Developer Tools, and on the toolbar of the Dialog, change 'IE8 Standards' to 'Standards'...

That also fixes the Pager function on Team_user_log.php...

Oliver, might you know what "X-UA-Compatible" value that might be?

"IE8" is the "IE8 Standards" mode but I don't know what corresponds to "Standards."  We are using "IE-Edge" in the latest code, I believe, in order to better support IE10.

This looks helpful:

you mean "IE=edge"... yes.. I saw this.

I've been looking, but I can't find anything certain..  just a lot of people who want to force IE8 Standards.. using "IE=8" (which doesn't work - i tried)

There is also document.documentMode = 8 in javascript..

And "IE=EmulateIE8" also does not work

In .NET there's an Ajax History Manager Control .. and that handles browser compatibility...  Is there no equivalent library in PHP?

You're right... is this because the URL is not set correctly in the browser?  and the $url variable is relative not absolute?

So when I am looking at team_user_log.php . my URL is still reading /resourcespace/pages/home.php ...

But try this:
1)  Right click on Team Centre and choose Open from the menu.  (this changes the URL to /pages/team/team_home.php - which doesn't change throughout these next steps)
2)  go to Manage Users
3)  select User Log for a user...
4..  now the pager works...

I changed my test server to use an absolute URL and it works now in IE8 - no matter what URL has been left in your address bar/history... and in all other browsers...

$url=$baseurl."/pages/team/team_user_log.php?ref=" . $ref . "&backurl=" . urlencode($backurl);

We tried history.js and were unable to get it to work for IE back button navigation. Still seeking solutions.

But could you make the $url into an absolute link... not relative.. on team_user_log.php .. ?

That'll solve this thread's title problem...

Hi Tim

Neil has fixed the IE8 History - I've tested it with our install... I remembered this post - and thought you'd like to know.
