Hi,

I have been using RS for several years and have it installed on my own server. At the moment my install is at 9.0.13003. I would like to upgrade this install, however, this installation is not using SVN. And I cannot find any clear instructions on how to get the install into a SVN repo so I can then update it via SVN.

I have downloaded the latest code, but I don't know what to upload in order to upgrade my install.

Is there a help doc somewhere that can tell me how to do this? Or does someone know of a tutorial for getting my remote installation into SVN?

Thanks
Colin

You should first convert your downloaded installation to a checked out SVN install; ResourceSpace no longer supports installing from a downloaded package.

Instructions here:

Then do an SVN update.

Additional information on installing/upgrading an SVN installation can be found here:

Thanks! This seems possible to do. Appreciate the links.

Be sure to completely back up both the site installation and the database first -- just good practice. . .

Yeah, I'll do that. Thanks for the reminder. Glad I saw this before pulling the trigger.

So, I was able to download the 9.6 version I think. I got a
Checked out revision 18163.
in the command line

Then I did a svn update

And I got this:
svn: E155007: None of the targets are working copies

Any idea what I need to do? (after I finish the backup)

Log into your installation as a super admin, and go to System | installation check. What is reported as the ResourceSpace version?

You don't "download" the SVN Conversion files. The conversion is accomplished from a terminal window while logged into the server (ssh).

I recommend you study carefully the instructions in the Knowledge Base on converting to and updating using SVN. Follow them closely.

You need to confirm that SVN is installed on the server. Type svn --version into a terminal window to confirm it is available.

I am logged into the server via SSH.

svn, version 1.10.4 (r1850624)

Sorry I used the wrong term. I guess I "checked out" the files.

Appreciate the help. I'll take it from here.

Gotta say, there is nothing "easy" about this.

I have tried every command listed on this page: https://www.resourcespace.com/knowledge-base/systemadmin/upgrading

both svn switch and svn update both says the install is at "At revision 18163." No clue if that is the most recent, but when I login to the install, it says I am still at 9.0.1etc

I have confirmed I am in the install directory.

Do you have a .svn folder in the installed directory?

Yes that folder is there

That would tell me an SVN upgrade has occurred.

When I look at the sysvars table this is a screenshot of it's contents:

Untitled-1.jpge

I've seen times when the reported version in System | Installation check didn't match. You might check the contents of that table and see if it matches what the Installation Check is reporting. I forget where in the system files the installed system version is available; odds are the two don't match.

I'll see what I can find. Perhaps someone else will wander by and know. . .

Hmmm... yeah, looking at that table, I see similar values:

Screen Shot 2021-08-30 at 9.35.05 AM.png

I guess it's updated? But the front end doesn't look any different than the old version.

And the one collection I was hoping the upgrade would fix is not fixed. Oh well.

Don't know for sure, but the fact my upgrade system level is 17 and yours is 6 tells me the db didn't capture the latest upgrade details, and therefore perhaps the upgrade didn't happen.

I haven't located where in the system files the current version might be documented. I'm not an SVN savant, so I can't say what's what here.
