Bulk add to a collection from list of Resource IDs?

Long story short, we had to recover our RS server from a clone that was made a few minutes before a user made a collection and shared it with a few folks. I have a CSV export of the collection_resource database table from before the clone restore and have filtered it down to only be the Resource IDs for the resources that were added. And I was able to determine the name/description of the collection from that before-the-clone-restore database as well.

So, I basically have a list of Resource IDs and I have everything I need to re-build the collection from scratch.

My question (and I couldn't find any answers either way about this in my searching...in here and general Google searching) is whether I have to add each resource manually (by searching for each individual Resource ID, and then adding that search result to the collection, or if there's a way that I can bulk-add-to-collection (or search or whatever) from a list of Resource IDs. Otherwise, with 518 individual Resource IDs, it'll take a bit of time to do that all manually.

Let me know ASAP, as I hope to get started on this stuff on Monday morning.

You sure can. Take your list of RSIDs, substitute a colon for each space or line break, like this:

1234:5678:3456: and so on. Put !list in front ( no colon between the T and the first ID ) and use it as your search.

I.e. !list1234:5678:3456

I think it’s limited to 100 RSIDs so you’ll have to do it in batches.

Excellent! I'll have to give it a try on Monday, but this is potentially a _huge_ time-saver 😁

This doesn't work, unfortunately.

I put this in the Search box:

!list 157837:158085:158086:158084:158083:158082:158081:158080:158079:158078:158077:158076:158075:158074:158073:158072:158071:158070:158069:158068:158067:158066:158065:158064:158063:158062:158061:158060:158059:158058:158057:158056:158055:158054:158053:158052:158051:158050:158049:158048:158047:158046:158045:158044:158043:158042:158041:158040:158039:158038:158037:158036:158035:158034:158033:158032:158031:158030:158029:158028:158027:158026:158025:158024:158023:158022:158021:158020:158019:158018:158017:158016:158015:158014:158013:158012:158011:158010:158009:158008:158007:158006:158005:158004:158003:158002:158001:158000:157999:157998:157997:157996:157995:157994:157993:157992:157991:157990

and this is what it gives me for results:

Screenshot 2025-07-22 at 10-15-24 Ohio Wesleyan University ResourceSpace Photo Archive.png

So I tried permutations with a space after each colon, using a semicolon or a comma instead of the colon, etc.

Nothing worked. I know that the individual Resource IDs are correct, because when I manually search on one of them, it comes up just fine.

Any ideas?

And nevermind...switched over and did it on the Advanced Search screen in the Resources field and it worked fine :P

There should be no space between !list and 157837.

!list157837:158085 ….

Heh gotcha. So what I found about Advanced Search worked, but just getting rid of that space makes it work in the "simple search" as well :P

I learned about that technique and a number of others by searching for ‘special search’ in the KB.

Yeah I see it here also:

(I just totally missed the whole "don't put a space between the special search term and whatever" thing :P)
