I have an MKV wrapped 1920x800 video and a sidecar .srt subtitle file. I want to convert the video to 1920 x 1080 and add black border on top and bottom while keeping the original aspect ratio. I also want to insert the subtitles on the black border.

Well, I think there was a, I would say there was a general concern that the flow of migrants at the southwest border would eliminate any opportunity to actually advance meaningful immigration reform in the United States.

There's a settlement out there called Flores that limits when and how children can be held in detention. We read it as: Children cannot be held in detention alone under any circumstances. But Flores wasn't clear that it applied to children who were with their parents.

We were very concerned about the consideration of a blanket policy of this nature. So we continued to monitor the situation. But we were unable to get confirmation that there was a policy in place from the administration. What we were told repeatedly was that it was being considered and that they continued to see it as the solution for how to prevent people from coming to our border and asking for asylum.

It was not until months later that Attorney General Jeff Sessions made the separation policy explicit while on a border visit to San Diego. He said the government had to separate children while their parents were prosecuted for illegal entry.

I was honored to stand next to Jeff Sessions to announce this decision surrounded by many American heroes wearing green with one heckler that probably doesn't know the first thing about serving this nation.

Table cells may either contain "header" information(see the TH element) or "data" (see the TD element). Cells may span multiplerows and columns. The HTML 4 table model allows authors to label each cell sothat non-visual user agents may more easilycommunicate heading information about the cell to the user. Not only do thesemechanisms greatly assist users with visual disabilities, they make it possiblefor multi-modal wireless browsers with limited display capabilities (e.g.,Web-enabled pagers and phones) to handle tables.

Tables should not be used purely as a means to layout document content asthis may present problems when rendering to non-visual media. Additionally, when used with graphics, these tables may force users to scroll horizontally toview a table designed on a system with a larger display. To minimize theseproblems, authors should use style sheetsto control layout rather than tables.

The HTML table model has been designed so that, with author assistance, useragents may render tables incrementally (i.e., astable rows arrive) rather than having to wait for all the data before beginningto render.

Authors should therefore take care to provideadditional information summarizing the purpose and structure of thetable using the summary attribute of the TABLE element. This is especiallyimportant for tables without captions. Examples below illustrate the use of thesummary attribute.

TFOOT must appear before TBODY within a TABLEdefinition so that user agents can render the foot before receiving all of the(potentially numerous) rows of data. The following summarizes which tags arerequired and which may be omitted:

Column groups allow authors to createstructural divisions within a table. Authors may highlight this structurethrough style sheets or HTML attributes (e.g., the rules attribute for the TABLE element). For an example of thevisual presentation of column groups, please consult the sample table.

The COL element allows authors to share attributes among several columnswithout implying any structural grouping. The "span" of the COLelement is the number of columns that will share the element's attributes.

When it is necessary to single out a column (e.g., for style information, tospecify width information, etc.) within a group, authors must identify thatcolumn with a COL element. Thus, to apply special style information to thelast column of the previous table, we single it out as follows:

Table cells may contain two types of information: headerinformation and data. Thisdistinction enables user agents to render header and data cells distinctly, even in the absence of style sheets. For example, visual user agents maypresent header cell text with a bold font. Speech synthesizers may renderheader information with a distinct voice inflection.

The TH element defines a cell that contains header information. Useragents have two pieces of header information available: the contents of the THelement and the value of the abbr attribute. User agents must render eitherthe contents of the cell or the value of the abbr attribute. For visual media, the latter may be appropriate when there is insufficient space to render thefull contents of the cell. For non-visual media abbr may be used as anabbreviation for table headers when these are rendered along with the contentsof the cells to which they apply.

Note the use of the scope attribute with the "row" value. Although thefirst cell in each row contains data, not header information, the scopeattribute makes the data cell behave like a row header cell. This allows speechsynthesizers to provide the relevant course name upon request or to state itimmediately before each cell's content.

Users browsing a table with a speech-based user agent may wish to hear anexplanation of a cell's contents in addition to the contents themselves. Oneway the user might provide an explanation is by speaking associated headerinformation before speaking the data cell's contents (see the section on associating header information with data cells).

Note that marking up the table this way also allows user agents to avoidconfusing the user with unwanted information. For instance, if a speechsynthesizer were to speak all of the figures in the "Meals" column of thistable in response to the query "What were all my meal expenses?", a user wouldnot be able to distinguish a day's expenses from subtotals or totals. Bycarefully categorizing cell data, authors allow user agents to make importantsemantic distinctions when rendering.

This example illustrates how COLGROUP can be used to group columnsand set the default column alignment. Similarly, TBODY isused to group rows. The frame and rules attributes tell the user agentwhich borders and rules to render.

We want to activate the shadow and borders together.. so that the subtitle form becomes much more beautiful.. Look at infuse and also look at VLC and also MX Player. We want this on the tvos system like infuse

Thank you @Musicalbox for this very informative tutorial.
I never thought it was possible to do this with this technique.
The text blocks with integrated progress bar are also very original.
Great job!

To be honest, maybe a bit too much work for such a simple effect
I was almost done with the tutorial almost a week ago, but I kept adding things.
I feel now that a more simpler, straight to the point tutorial may have been preferable for this.

Superb! I echo everything said above, especially about the use of subtitles with a progress bar and all the work that went into editing this. Did you generate the subtitles and other graphics in Shotcut, or from another program, or a combination of both? Regardless, very well done indeed.

To catch the eye of the audience with an ever-shrinking attention span, adding subtitles to videos has become a norm. Popular video streaming platforms like Youtube, Netflix, and Crunchyroll add subtitles to their videos and you should do the same.

It doesn't only retain the audience's attention but also breaks the language barrier. International fans can enjoy watching phenomenal TV shows like Money Heist, Squid Game, and other Japanese anime shows with the help of translated subtitles.

These video streaming platforms use different styles for their subtitles and they are pretty distinctive. Although most of them use soft subtitles, you can use FFmpeg to embed hard subtitles with styles like theirs in your videos.

If you are adding subtitles to movies or videos that are longer than 30 minutes, black and white might still be the best colours to use. For other videos, you can try different colours especially if you are creating a short video for a brand.

You can use the style definitions below as a guide to change the colours of the font, border, background, and shadow of your subtitle. Other properties like Fontname, Fontsize, Bold, etc. are self-explanatory, you can change them too.

Other than FFmpeg, there are other tools that can help you to add subtitles to video files. Some of them like Bannerbear can even auto-generate subtitles for your videos and add them to the videos with custom styles and other elements.

the basic subtitles provided by Roku are, to be quite frank, lacking. their 'white' option is actually more of a gray, they lack a sufficiently bold font, and the outline is simply too thin. I myself was also watching something on Funimation last night, and missed several lines because of how unreadable the text can be at times. And I must echo the sentiment of the previous poster, adding a background simply obscures more of the picture, which is less than desirable.

As a fairly new Roku customer, I've been pleased with almost every other aspect of the device so far (and the few I haven't been pleased with are either due to bad internet connection, which is a problem on my end, or a problem specific to the apps, which is on their end), but the default subtitles that come with the Roku are simply lacking.

This may not be too helpful, but I'll offer it anyway. I'm 75 years old and with my old eyes I use captions a lot. I agree that the Roku captioning leaves a lot to be desired. After much experimenting these are the best settings I've found, given what we have to work with. Maybe other people will at least find this to be a good starting point for their own experimentation.
