This weeks task was to laser scan a small/ medium object using software on a Ipad in the fablab. We will then load this file into meshmixer in order to tidy up the 3D model to make the geometry of the object easier to read, so that it can be printed more easily by the machine.
What I decided to scan this week using the 3D scanner was my arm from the elbow forward, the Ipad works with a camera attachment and an app which after you scan the object will create a basic mesh out of this which I can then tidy up.
After loading in the model I rotated it so that was in a position that looked better and was also more easy to work with, then after doing this I used the plane cut tool so that I could get rid of the rough extra bits on the bottom and have the model look much cleaner.
After doing the rotating I used the sculpt function with a range of different brushes and falloffs to create the desired effect that I wanted. I used Drag and Inflate (Top left and below) to change the main shape of the model and to make the significant changes with detail aswell. I used ShrinkSmooth and RobsutSmooth (bottom right and bottom left on the brush grid) to smooth out imperfections and make the whole think look tidier for when I was finishing up the model. I then converted the model into an stl. file so that it could be printed on our 3D printer.
