Reshma Aur Shera received high critical acclaim from domestic and international critics and was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival.[2] It was selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 44th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.[3]

Reshma Aur Shera won 3 awards at the 19th National Film Awards. Waheeda Rehman won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her highly-acclaimed performance in the film. The film also won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Jaidev and the National Film Award for Best Cinematography for Ramachandra.[2]

Set against the backdrop of Rajasthan, Reshma (Rehman) and Shera (Dutt) love each other in the midst of a violent feud between their clans. When their families find out about their relationship, Chotu (Bachchan), Shera's mute sharpshooting brother carries out his father Sagat Singh's (Jayant) orders to kill Reshma's father (K. N. Singh) and her recently married brother Gopal (Ranjeet). Unable to bear the grief of Gopal's widowed bride (Raakhee), Shera kills his own father believing he actually pulled the trigger. After this tragedy, Reshma and Shera's family's feud will end in more tragedy as misunderstandings lead to more bloodshed between the clans.

Reshma Pathan was born into a conservative Muslim family. She was the eldest of five children. The streets and by-lanes surrounding her house were her playgrounds and she would amuse herself by climbing statues and performing all kinds of risky antics fearlessly. Then one day her mother was arrested for smuggling clothes, rice and other items and was jailed. Her father was ill and unable to work and the family was in dire straits.

As Pathan revealed in a Filmfare magazine interview, her father objected because he feared for her safety and felt that no amount of money was worth risking her life. Her motive was basically to earn enough money so that her family could have a decent life. By breaking the stereotype, she angered her male counterparts as they used to double for the actresses.

In 1968, she performed her first stunt in the film Ek Khiladi Bawab Patte for the actress Laxmi Chaya. it was a dance sequence in which the actress trips and falls and slides off the stage. Pathan performed the stunt in one take, thus cementing her career. Her salary, like any of the other stunt people, was to be Rs. 175 but at the end of the day the producers paid her only Rs. 100. She told Filmfare that they did not pay for her transportation either, but that she was happy with the Rs 100 as it was more than what some college graduates made.

After the film, she went on to work with such A-list actresses as Meena Kumari, Rekha, Hema Malini and many others. But life on the sets was not always easy. The working conditions were not up to standard there was a lack of safety measures. She had to fend off unwanted advances made by actors, crew members and stuntmen. She handled these unwanted propositions very diplomatically, using her voice instead of her fists. She told Filmfare that she could have defended herself by using physical force but chose not to. When an actor came on to her, her response would be to say that she was a fan of his and that he would not like that image destroyed.

In 1980, she married stunt director Shakoor Pathan and suddenly their world came crashing down when a law banning stunts in films was passed in 1984. With no work, they were running out of their savings, but fortunately for her, she had the habit of leaving loose change and money in jars and boxes, and that money saw them through the hard times.

Now, after all the years she spent being the unknown face onscreen, a biopic called The Sholay Girl has been made about her life showcasing her daring can-do spirit. After all her hard work motivated by the urge to provide for her family, this is a nice accolade.

Violence begets violence of course, but what if someone tried to stop this? to what extreme would it push that person, until they are inevitably pulled into the same cycle?
Despite sunil dutt and waheeda rehman's central roles in this, can't help but feel it is amitabh bachchan as chottu who is the most fascinating of all. a sad character pushed into violence, and brought to a haunting break down where he asks the wife of the husband he was tricked into murdering to cut his own neck- senseless violence ultimately sparing no one.
reshma aur shera is filmed with such an appreciation of the geography, architecture, clothing etc of rajasthan its worth watching for that alone

Long-standing rivalry between Rajputs in an endless sea of sand, we approve! Violence begets violence in which men do the killing and avenging and women do the sacrificing. Even when men are punishing themselves and being angsty and mea culpa'ing, ultimately women are the ones who get hurt. Find another way to deal with your mess, Shera. But Waheeda Rehman what a fucking queen you are!

Waheeda Rehman and Sunil Dutt both give good performances in their respective parts as the title two characters, Reshma and Shera, the two lovers who are desperate to be with each other, regardless of what their families think. They both suit their roles well and make the most of the time they have on the screen.

Reshma Shetty burst onto the small screen in USA's flagship series Royal Pains as television's first female South Asian series' lead. Royal Pains aired for a staggering eight seasons and over 100 episodes. The very next season, Reshma starred as a Series Regular on the Jason Katims-CBS drama Pure Genius. Additional television and film credits partially include a heavily recurring role on NBCs' Blindspot as accomplished journalist and 'DREAMer' Megan; recurring on CBS' Instinct as MI6 agent 'Maya'; Dreamworks/ Netflix's SHE-RA, CSI Miami (CBS), 30 Rock (NBC), Odd Mom Out (Bravo), Happyish (Showtime) and the feature film Allegiance. She will be seen on Monarchs (Fox) with Susan Sarandon and Anna Friel.

Reshma is also an accomplished vocalist and graduate of the famed Opera department at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Immediately following graduation, she garnered the lead role of Priya in A.R. Rahman's / Andrew Lloyd Webber's First Broadway National tour of "Bombay Dreams". Shetty then opened to rave reviews in her Off-Broadway debut at The New Group, starring in Ayub Khan-Din's "Rafta Rafta."

Reshma was one of the first beautiful faces of Cindy Crawford's "Meaningful Beauty" line and continues to work with various organizations dedicated to public service meant to raise awareness and combat prejudice and discrimination. Some of her favorite organizations include Lend a Hand India, New York's New Abolitionists and most recently she partnered with Apne Aap Women Worldwide, a grassroots Indian organization, where Reshma had the opportunity to speak at the United Nations on working to empower girls and women to prevent sex trafficking.

Free-styling has always been a challenge for me because I come from a structured training background. Learning choreography is my comfort zone. Getting out of my head to just move freely has been a journey, and one that I continue to nurture.

In addition to dance I also perform as an actor. A film I shot pre-lockdown, Moon Manor, is debuting at film festivals this year and will soon be available for viewing! During quarantine I acted in short film, JANE, in which I play a hired assassin. It was an exciting role for me, I look forward to sharing it with the world. Also, Miles and I completed our feature-film screenplay, In Our Wake, which is moving toward pre-production!

Reshma Shetty is an incredibly talented actress and singer who has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide with her remarkable performances on both the big and small screens. With her captivating presence and versatile range, she has become a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry.
