Hi Everyone!

They are coming up quickly, but I wanted to make sure you were all aware of the Refinery Public Meetings coming up in the next couple of weeks.
The Department of Planning and Development is helping to staff the meeting of the Community Committee so that we can get as much input from residents as possible. We are also creating a form to get input from residents who cannot make the meeting, which will be shared on the website: https://www.phila.gov/programs/refinery-advisory-group/

If you can attend, please do, and please share with your communities.

The meeting of the Community Committee is August 20th; 5:30-7:30 at Prep Charter School: 1928 Point Breeze Ave.

Thank you!

Subject: Coopting this thread re: refinery explosion

Hi folks,

I’m wondering if any of you heard for your local officials or even received a phone call about the refinery explosion. I’m located near 21st and Passyunk. We were fast asleep at my house, and because we have a three month old at home (!!!) we do not typically engage with the news first thing. I’m very disturbed by the fact that I did not receive any information directly about the refinery explosions, either as a citizen or as the president of an RCO. My mom sent me a text message to check on me and told me what was happening. But unfortunately there are a lot of people who are more vulnerable and isolated than me! I get phone calls and emails from my local officials about events all the time, so why was there silence about this?  I can smell it in my home!

I would love to know if you received any official communication regarding the explosion, either as a citizen or an RCO representative.

Thank you,
Elizabeth Crutchley

All, see below.  PGW just requested to meet to explain.  I can arrange such a meeting for mid-July at CityLife Church 20 & Geary, IF I know there will be outstanding attendance and all will participate.   PGW (and others) needs to see HUNDREDS of people in order to feel the pain and hopefully we can send a message far and wide NOT to jackpot us all again!!!
It is the principal of the matter.   No notice to those who are affected = means something bad is happening!   Before I tackle this time - consuming and expensive venture, please advise which groups will participate by spreading notice of meeting and making a commitment to send at least 10 people.

This is from PGW
Good afternoon Barbara,

Council proceeded with their vote yesterday on the Passyunk project which I assume you are aware of but I maintain my interest in meeting with your members to discuss all the of details of PGW’s LNG expansion project and respond to any and all questions. Our goal at PGW is to be transparent and open about all items related to PGW with the public. We are owned by the city and we work for the ratepayers of Philadelphia. I sincerely meant no harm and believed that outreach through PES’s energy network would be a great way to communicate the impact of this particular project to an audience that is engaged in the energy space. After our phone conversation yesterday morning I am clear that you and others would have preferred a different approach and I’d like to repair the oversight.

I hope you are still open to having me come to a Community meeting. Please let me know what date and time you prefer and I will be sure to make myself available to be there. Below find my office number and work cell phone please do not hesitate to contact me with any items in the future that I can be of assistance with. I look forward to meeting you and the residents of the community and building better lines of communication.

Sincerely,

I WRITE AT THE REQUEST OF and ON BEHALF OF all the groups / RCOs named below (and the list is growing).  Together, as VOLUNTEER Community leaders, we represent thousands of residents impacted by this proposal.   WE WERE NOT INFORMED ABOUT THE IMMINENT PLAN TO VOTE THIS BILL OUT OF COUNCIL BEFORE THERE WAS SERIOUS COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
IF PGW SAYS THEY NOTIFIED US, OTHER THAN AN EMAILED NOTICE SUPPOSEDLY SENT TO A LIMITED NUMBER OF SUNOCO CAP MEMBERS ON DECEMBER 28TH , THEY ARE MISLEADING COUNCIL IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.

WE HEARTILY REQUEST A POSTPONEMENT OF A FINAL VOTE ON THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE UNTIL SEPTEMBER IN ORDER FOR US TO HAVE TIME TO ORGANIZE ONE OR MORE COMMUNITY MEETINGS AND EDUCATE OURSELVES AND OUR RESIDENTS REGARDING THE PROS AND CONS OF THIS SERIOS PROPOSAL.

We are all trying to remain Open-Minded regarding the 'substance' of this issue.
HOWEVER, the defective 'NOTICE PROCESS'  has led us all to believe that something very bad is happening, since we are all easily accessible, and yet none of us knew about this issue and the imminent Final Vote, until this Monday, June 10th.

COUNCILMAN JOHNSON & THE PLANNING COMMISSION HAVE ALL OF OUR CONTACT INFORMATION.  MANY OF US HAVE EXTENSIVE PAPERWORK AT PLANNING COMMISSION AS WE JUMPED THROUGH THE HOOPS TO GAIN / RETAIN OUR RCO STATUS.  WE ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN FORMALLY NOTIFIED OF THIS PROPOSAL WELL BEFORE THIS WEEK.

As Volunteers, we can not take off from work on short notice to attend Council hearing to protest in person.
Thank You all for your consideration regarding this vital matter.
