Mercaptan removal update: the company brought in to remove the mercaptan needs additional preparation time, we are postponing the removal and will let you know when it will occur.

Dear CAP,
On Thursday December 5th we will have a company at the refinery that specializes in removing the liquid odorant called ethyl mercaptan that we add to give propane its characteristic smell. In order to perform this extraction we will need to disconnect a small pipe. Since there are two tanks and locations where we add the odorant, there will be two openings. During this process, it is possible for some of the mercaptan to be liberated. We are taking every precaution to prevent escape of the mercaptan, because a very small quantity could create odors outside our fence line. Because of that risk during this activity, we are letting you and various agencies know about this work. The odor created by this material is a rotten eggs type odor intended to give warning in case of a leak when it is added in small quantities to propane or natural gas. We will send an update message when this activity is completed.
