Jim, Thanks for the offer.

Those who were contemporary with Marsh in New York but of whom I have only scant information are Thomas Newman, a Brit who purchased The Millennial Harbinger and Bible Expositor from Jos. Marsh in 1862 and then kind of dropped out of the editing scene after 1863 so that four other men edited it for another year.  Newman may have worked his way west through Chicago to Iowa, but  after that I don't know of his whereabouts.

Maurice Joblin of Cleveland also preached the Age to Come message and was probably a bit younger than Marsh, but may have known him.  Joblin split the Church of God  in Cleveland over doctrine on the resurrection, I think,   he may have been a lithographer or printer.

Mark Allen of Woburn, Mass. also was prominent in Cleveland I think as  an evangelist, but I haven't been able to find much personal information about him.  He helped to establish the Cleveland congregation in the 1850s or so, of which Joblin was a part.

In New York there was also a John Grant who was contemporary with Jos. Marsh and was supposedly related to U. S. Grant and even looks like him, but I can't verify the relationship.  Grant preached in New York and Canada West.

Another man is John T. Ongley who supposedly was one of the first to preach conditional immortality with George Storrs in the tent ministry.  Ongley was Church of God who worked out of Pa. and in the eastern Ohio area.  I don't know if he knew Jos. Marsh, but I think he must have.

J. W. Niles also worked with Ongley, Niles being the younger, I think.  Niles' name also is seen in 7th day COG circles, but I think he preached for the Age to Come across Pa, and down into W. Va.

If you run across more original copies of The Christian Palladium during the 1830s or 40s, or of The Millennial Harbingers (Campbells) during the 1830s, 40s, or 50s, please let me know.

I do have some info on all these men, but a bit more would round out their bios.

thanks again
Jan

Janet,

You mentioned an interest in Joseph Marsh, who edited the Christian Palladium. Are there other people from that era about whom you want information? I'm conducting extensive online research right now as I compile information about the debating opponents of John Steele Sweeney (1832 - 1908). If you send me some names or topics to keep an eye out for, I will be glad to send you information as I come across it.

Kind regards,

Jim
