An "Elder Craig" is listed a the editor of The Patriot (a Republican
newspaper), published at Carrollton, beginning in 1861. He was 18
years older than JSS.

PRESS, 1858-1861+: A Republican paper edited by S. P. Orr. Changed to
PATRIOT, +1861 to date: Edited by Elder Craig, followed by William B.
Fairchild; Lee, Lusk and Piatt; Miner and Lindley, 1873-1875; Clement
L. Clapp, 1876-1888; Charies Bradshaw, 1888 to date. Republican. Files
since 1875 are in the office.
