Thanks for the leads. I’ll check these out and see if I can place James B. Johnson in Washington at any time.

Acc. to the MH Index, there is a J. B. Johnson (from Illinois), an 1866 graduate of Bethany College. In Nov. of that year he is in Pennsylvania.

In the Christian Evangelist Index there is an entry for an 1896 obit. for a James B. Johnson.

In CE Index, there are several (30+) entries for a J. B. Johnson. The dates for the items range from 1868 to as late as 1897, with one dated to 1925. He wrote what are called "hurrygraphs" one of which is a Washington Hurrygraph (1890). In 1880 he wrote a letter re "People Moving to West for New Homes." Some of his corresp. referenced is from Nebraska, so "West" may be Neb.

CR Index: JOHNSON, J  B  (INDIANA)  May'51:340

Christian Standard Index has a few references that appear to be the same JBJ as in the CE.

The Johnson surname may be a tough one to nail down given its commonness.
