I saw a YouTube video where a guy rubs a very thin (invisible) layer of shaving cream on the inside of his window. Then he demonstrates that the window no longer fogs up when exposed to a pot of boiling water for a few moments. There's also a specific product for this but it's more expensive, and apparently shaving cream works just as well.
As strange as it sounds, shaving cream can work just like many common household cleaners in a pinch. Why? Because it contains active ingredients that are found in most household cleaning soaps, including emulsifiers, surfactants, and cleansing agents.
I sketched and envisioned A LOT of different concepts before deciding on this one. A big part of me wanted to make a bunch of smaller items to fill the window, so that people might be more willing to purchase a piece of it at a lower price. But ultimately, I felt like the big triple scoop ice cream cones would make a bigger and more fun visual impact. They are over 5 feet tall!
The Pella family of brands offers a full range of quality windows and doors for new construction, remodeling and replacement projects. We are proud to match their colors in paint to assist with your touch up needs.
Yes, MyPerfectColor matches the color and sheen of the Pella Windows and Doors Vanilla Cream PR7843. Choose exterior spray paint, touch up bottles or paint pens as the paint type option if you need to touch up windows or doors. If you are painting gutters, vents, pipes and other ancillary items, then our spray paint, paint pens and touch up bottles are ideal for painting these items. However, keep in mind that our version of the Pella Windows and Doors Vanilla Cream PR7843 is based on matching an official Pella Windows and Doors color sample. The color and sheen of your specific Pella Windows and Doors parts may vary. If your material is not new and has been exposed to the weather, then it is likely that the color has changed over time. MyPerfectColor will be sending a match of the original color which has not been exposed to sunlight and weather. If your exterior has aged and you need a touch up application, we can create a touch up solution precisely matching the current color of your siding.
I have beige walls, very light beige, almost cream. But I have a 1920 craftsman house with brown stained wooden trim in every room on the main floor, so it lightens up the craftsman look while still looking good with the woodwork.
And EVERYONE should choose the RIGHT colour for their home and furnishings (just like I do for my clients), NOT just white or cream or beige or grey just because they happen to be trending! Thanks for your comment, Maria
Interesting Maria as I have noticed white farmhouse look with black windows in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan lately in different economic areas up to over $1 million. I like the idea of cream sounds so dreamy, exciting!
Almond Bisque happens to be a darker version of my cream sofa and with the fern green accents and dark brown hardwood flooring in the living and dining room, I am in no rush to change the paint colours!
Re the restaurant; totally agree with you Maria about its awnings and their lack of contrast. In fact, my knee jerk reaction was the addition of copper somewhere (preferably coated to retain its lustre) might give the building some life! As for new builds and the use of black windows and/or white/cream brick exteriors, I am wondering if the popularity of black shingled roofs are dictating their use? (Just a thought.) -Brenda-
Even though I took your class, I was not prepared for the fact that each time a new white, cream, or ivory element is added, the way the colors look together changes. Not being a decorator, it is just something that is evolving as we get closer to finishing. But, I am very happy with the results.
I had repose grey on walls and accessible beige was painted over it with a much more pleasing look. I am still earthy with creams and whites with a little black, grey charcoal color, warm natural leather with green and dark teal accents. Floor to ceiling windows overlook nature, so it all blends seamlessly
We live in Arizona, and have a ton of light coming in from the nine transom windows above the regular ones. I like beiges, because they seem to match everything in the house. Currently, we have painted the room with Sherwin Williams NOMADIC DESERT, and have Pella Windows with a creamy white inside trim, so color matched that for the rest of the wood work. The floor plan is very open, so this color scheme seems to work.

Streak-free glass has been a source of contention for professional and amateur cleaners for decades. Manufacturers release every day new formulations for their products, promising to provide us with a perfect shine. Do shaving creams remove dirt from glass? Have we been doing this the wrong way since the invention of shaving cream in 1919?
Mirrors appear identically sparkly. However, shaving cream was three times longer to do. It was also incredibly messy. While we scrubbed and cleaned the shaving cream off the glass, small pieces of shaving cream threatened to fall onto the mirror. They often succeeded in the end, particularly when we reached near the edges of the mirror.
Shaving cream cleanses glass since soap, water, and alcohol constitute the majority of both products. Shaving creams also have moisturizers like Glycerin. (Fun information: Glycerin is the secret ingredient in the bubble juice.)
If you're looking to wash glass at a reasonable cost, expert window cleaners will advise you that you just need a few drops of dish soap, water, and the Squeegee. An ounce of dish soap is about the price of one dime and produces five gallons worth of window washing fluid. Then, why should you ever make use of a $2 bottle of shaving cream?
Shaving cream residues contain antifogging qualities as they reduce the water's surface tension. Surface tension causes water to bead onto glass, and that's why it is difficult to see through a fog-filled windshield.
If you scrub your mirror in your bathroom using shaving cream, it will not get clogged up while you're bathing. (Fun fact: Car wax can stop your mirror from fogging.) But, an antifog solution such as Rain-X can last for weeks with each application, which is less expensive than shaving cream. If you are looking for a commercial window cleaner that is fast and clean, we suggest Invisible Glass.
What's the bottom line? Shaving cream should be only a last resort and not a first option. If you're running out of Window cleaner and Rain-X and you're desperate to clear your mirror at the moment, and you've got an empty bottle of Barbasol in your cupboard, it's a good choice for the trick in a pinch.
I have recently bought a homestead style home with french doors. It is painted this iridescent looking pale green with cream and red highlights. All the gutters and garage doors are Colourbond Cottage Green and all the aluminium windows are Primrose Cream. I can't afford to paint the colour bond and windows.
I have a dark red brick house and we are replacing windows. Would you choose white or cream window frames? I had thought about going light grey but not sure if I like it. Attached is picture of the brick
I would go for cream, white discolour within a few years, a neighborhood white window frames fitted a couple of years ago and they have a tree in a garden which casts a shadow over part of the window and frame in the shadow the windowsill is still whiter which is fine until we cut the tree back, and now they have a half white and half cream windowsills I don't think it would have been so obvious if the window sill cream to start with . Also show up the dust / dirt quicker
Thanks everyone. I'm afraid if I stick with white that it won't look like I have new windows. I did think cream would look quite yellowish but when I saw a cream one it didn't look that bad but would be afraid it will look dated. I saw pictures of grey ones and they do look nice but not sure if I'm brave enough
Just for information OP, we're in the middle of getting quotes for new windows and have settled on Anthracite Grey (dark slatey colour). To get the same windows in either "mouse grey" or "mushroom" was an extra 2k as apparently they make them in white then spray them, rather than just make them in that colour to begin with. Something to consider.
SHAVING CREAM WINDOW WRITING
Instead of just squirting some shaving cream on a play table or tray, I added a vertical surface play element to this activity for my preschooler! We squirted shaving cream outside on the window of our backdoor. She rubbed it all over and then began writing, drawing, and erasing lots of shaving cream creations!

"We are so excited to be kicking off the sixth annual Ice Cream Trail, one of the sweetest parts of summer!" said Deputy Secretary Fischer Lepore. "This year's trail takes visitors across the commonwealth and is a truly delightful way to spend time with friends and family. We know Pennsylvanians and visitors alike will love the creameries featured on the trail."
