Mine has stopped working also. I can view the USB Card readers in the System Report, but it appears the readers aren't reading my actual card. Likely a firmware issue. Tried on two different card readers. 2020 MBP M1, Sonoma Developer Beta 2.

The latest update push did not solve our issue. I really relied on my MacBook Air M1 for telework. Now, I have to use a Microsoft device. Not good at the moment. I might need to roll back off the beta program until this issue with trusted USB devices is solved.

The smart card and reader works perfectly in Ventura and worked perfectly in the first developer beta of macOS Sonoma, but somewhere either beta 2 or beta 3 of the developer previews it stopped working.

I have replicated this with a clean install on different Mac hardware and the same issue. This is a Sonoma issue and not a reader or Mac hardware issue as the same reader and smart card continue to work well if I plug them into Ventura machine.

Just to confirm, a clean install of the released public version on 27th September - and still smart cards are NOT working, whereas they work perfectly on Ventura (and did on initial developer builds of Sonoma)

Yeah, it's not completely fixed for me, either. I'm on the RC, or Gold Master, or wherever we are at now. I can use the card reader to open sites in Safari, and to log into our virtual desktop, but once I do that, I can't use it for anything inside the virtual desktop. It can see the card reader but can't read the tokens off it. This same computer (2022 M1 MBP) worked fine the day prior to updating to the RC. No changes to hardware or software apart from the OS itself, and it stopped passing card reader credentials through to the virtual machine.

I GOT IT WORKING in macOS 14.1 Beta (23B5046f) by INSTEAD of connecting by USB, I connected with BlueTooth using the GBDM App (Gemalto Card Reader for Barclays iPortal login) and connecting the card reader by BLUETOOTH (which has NEVER been possible in Ventura, it always failed to connect)

I had been using a Saicoo card reader (FBA_S0201B-SSM) which was working fine on macOS 13 (Ventura). Upon upgrading to Sonoma 14.0, the reader stopped functioning. I then purchased the Belkin F1DN008U card reader and it works out of the box with no additional drivers. I also have heard success with the Identiv SCR3310v2.0 card reader on macOS 14.0. Hope this helps if someone is encountering the same issue. It appears like there may be some card readers that stop functioning on macOS 14.0 due to the built in driver not being compatible.

Q1: Do i need some kind of adapter to put my nano sim card into the reader because sim card slot is bigger than nano?
A: Yes, you need a adapter to help you put the nano sim card into the reader.

I see the CAC reader in the USB listing, I even reinstalled the drivers for my SCR3310,v2 CAC reader. However, after the system upgraded to Monterey...poof, I can no longer get into any sites that require my CAC. I also went into Military CAC and deleted, then reinstalled my certificates.

The problem is even if it opens (the certificate listing), it is blank. I used it for VMWare to work offsite but it now just shows up with a. blank in the certificate box. Need help and thanks. Hate that it worked before but no longer since it upgraded.

I have the new MacBook Pro M1 Max (2021) laptop. I've never installed anything. This computer came with Monterey 12.0.1. I tried the steps mentioned about about opening Terminal window and paste the long command, typing my password (twice), restarted, etc. I was never prompted to select a certificate, enter a PIN - nothing. It appears to STILL NOT be reading the car- reader (SCR3310 v2.0). Could really more assistance. Thanks in advance.

Pre-Big Sur usually required CAC enabling software to work. Those same CAC enablers will prevent it from working in Big Sur and later. So, if you upgraded from an OS previous to Big Sur, you may still have the CAC Enabler software installed and it needs to be removed. MilitaryCAC.com has instructions somewhere on the site.

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.smartcard DisabledTokens -array && sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.smartcard EnabledTokens -array com.apple.CryptoTokenKit.pivtoken

Initially did it without the drivers before the suggestion was to install them. This all happened "after" Monterey upgraded on my system. Before that, no problems using the CAC. Bought a new CAC just to see if that does the trick....it still does not "prompt" for certificates although it clearly shows it as functional in the Systems Report and even after going into the terminal using the "pcsctest" command which shows "Command Successful" and the reader listed as SCR3310.

Thank you for sharing. I recently upgraded to Monterey and now trying to set up my SCR3310 v2 CAC reader (was never set up before). However, after following all the instructions on militarycac.com, my CAC reader still will not read the card it seems.

"An unexpected error occured validating your certificate. In order to log in with your Smart Card, please close your browser and all tabs associated with it and try again using the Authentication certificate or log in with your LOGIN ID and Password."

I upgraded my MAC to Monterey and I need to install my military CAC for the first time. I haven't been able to locate good instructions to do so. I have used militarycac.com, homecacuse.com etc and nothing. Any IT guru with guidance and links I could follow? Thanks!

VMWare is something I was using for the military. But I did the steps in my earlier post and it worked. It was driving me crazy. After going into Terminal and following those steps, I basically had to reactivate my CAC reader where apparently the upgrade shut it down. Also, after I did it, it was no problem at all and no additional software in order for it to display the certificate options like others said. I have the same CAC reader and it worked with others as well after the steps.

Microsoft Edge works pretty well, too. And, you can turn a webpage into an "app." So, you can turn webmail into an App that you just double-click to open. Chrome may do the same as Edge is chromium based.

The Zoweetek CAC Smart Card Reader is one of the most reliable of the CAC card readers. Many military personnel already use this card reader since many commands carry them and use them for portable computers.

Although the Zoweetek CAC Smart Card Reader is one of the most prominently used CAC readers, there are still some very important questions to be answered so as to make sure it will allow you to use it with your system without the hassle.

I purchased a smart card reader, zoweetek 12026-1, for which i will need to install pcsc and ccid drivers. I have successfully install pcsc-lite-1.8.6 but when i tried to install ccid-1.4.5-alcor i got the following error during ./configure.

I tried to find a newer one (mainly on GitHub) but didn't and since I'm not even sure about what the error message means, I thought it would be better to ask before I start to messing up my Ubuntu installation.

This article focuses on the steps required to successfully start using your smart card on ChromeOS on your personal, unmanaged device. If you are an admin and wish to deploy smart cards on managed devices across your organization, then please refer to Deploy smart cards on ChromeOS.

The Smart Card Connector app provides Chromebooks with PC/SC support. This PC/SC API can then be used by other applications such as smart card middleware and Citrix to provide functionality on top e.g. browser integration and virtual session redirection. You can install the app by going to the entry on the Chrome Web Store and clicking Add to Chrome.

In addition to the connector, you need to install the proper middleware app that can communicate with smart cards and offer client certificates that can authenticate you to HTTPS websites. Google has partnered with Drivelock to bring support for a wide range of cards and profiles, including PIV and CAC, onto ChromeOS. You can install the app by going to the entry on the Chrome Web Store and clicking on Install.

Note: The connector app offers a public API that middleware apps other than Drivelock can also use. You can install other middleware vendors like CACKey directly from the Chrome Web Store.

Note: Installing a root certificate on a device is a very privacy and security sensitive operation. Make sure you only install trust roots you obtained and verified from sources you trust.

Note: For US Department of Defense users, most websites require users to install several trust roots and intermediaries. These are available as official downloads from IASE Tools > Trust Store > PKI CA Certificate Bundles: PKCS#7 > For DoD PKI Only bundle. Once you download that bundle on ChromeOS, go to the Files app, double click to mount the zip and then drag and drop the contents of the mounted zip into the downloads folder. Then follow the import instructions in Step 3 for the following two files, checking all boxes when configuring trust

Apps like Citrix and Drivelock will need to contact the Smart Card Connector to communicate with your cards and readers. As cards and readers contain sensitive user information, the connector app will show users a permission dialog before granting access to any app. If you see a permission dialog prompted by a third party app you trust, click on ALLOW to move on.
