Client: California State Teachers’ Retirement Systems
Work Location: West Sacramento, California - Hybrid (3 days in office)
Background- CalSTRS is pursuing Digital Transformation initiatives, including:
- Implementation of Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse (DW) capabilities
- Initiatives in Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Adoption of cloud computing solutions where feasible and cost-effective
- Migration of applications to a cloud data center
- Implementation of a modernized pension administration system to replace legacy systems
- The Technical and Business Intelligence Architect will provide expertise in implementing BI & DW solutions, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring knowledge transfer to CalSTRS staff.
Role: Technical & Business Intelligence Architect
- Requires strong knowledge of Generative AI, BI & DW tools, processes, frameworks, and architectures.
- Will collaborate with the CalSTRS BI & DW Technical Team to implement the enterprise solution.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level guidance on Generative AI, designing and building AI infrastructure and applications.
- Design and build CI/CD pipeline architectures on AWS or Azure cloud.
- Provide expert-level guidance on BI technologies, developing scalable BI applications.
- Define BI standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Collaborate with BI Developers, Data Architects, and Business Analysts for BI reporting and DW solutions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of cloud architecture (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, scalability).
- Demonstrate knowledge of DevOps tool chains and processes.
- Guide activities across SMEs, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of BI & DW solutions.
- Identify, log, and track technical risks/issues during BI & DW implementation.
- Act as SME for BI & DW Data Platform architecture (Snowflake, AWS, major cloud providers).
- Contribute to DevOps development activities and complex development tasks.
- Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, design, build, testing, and deployment.
- Provide technical expertise in diagnosing and resolving issues, including workaround solutions.
- Ensure timely delivery of solutions, managing scope and risks with project sponsors.
- Provide support and technical governance for cloud architectures, deployments, and operations.
- Discover, analyze, document, and communicate technical risks and architectural impacts.
- Deliver weekly/monthly technical reports on findings impacting schedules, resources, or activities.
Minimum Technical Qualifications
- 10+ years of hands-on Data Warehouse lifecycle experience:
- Data modeling (logical & physical)
- Mapping data from diverse sources
- Loading DW objects (dimensions, hierarchies, fact tables, aggregates)
- Building Reporting Metadata layers and reports
- 5+ years across at least two IT disciplines: technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management, operations.
- 5+ years in BI and predictive analytics on cloud-based Data Warehouses.
- 3+ years using DevOps tool chains and processes.
- 1+ year in Generative AI architecture design and AI application development.
Desirable Technical Qualifications
- 10 years of Data Warehousing experience (SQL Server, Snowflake, AWS Redshift).
- 3 years with ETL tools (Informatica, AWS Glue, Talend).
- 3 years with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
- Cloud Architect and AI certifications (copies may be requested).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field (copy may be requested).
