BackgroundCalSTRS is pursuing multiple initiatives aligned with its Digital Transformation strategic goal. Key efforts include Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse (DW) implementations. The BI Developer role requires strong expertise in BI&DW tools, ML/AI, frameworks, standards, processes, and architectures. The consultant will collaborate with business subject matter experts and the BI&DW project team to deliver better products, faster insights, and improved business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with data architects, business analysts, ETL developers, and business stakeholders to design and deliver enterprise BI solutions (reports, dashboards, data warehouse, data lake, data marts, ETL processes).
- Integrate Generative AI capabilities into BI&DW platforms to automate insights and recommendations, accelerating decision-making.
- Apply machine learning and AI techniques to generate predictive insights for anticipating future business trends and opportunities.
- Translate business requirements into functional design documents and cross-functional solutions.
- Conduct product performance analysis by defining key metrics and developing analytical dashboards/reports.
- Lead functional testing and certify BI product releases prior to user acceptance; enforce best practices for product quality.
- Build and optimize complex SQL queries; leverage reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, etc.
- Perform deep-dive data analysis to evaluate product quality and user experience across reports/dashboards.
- Execute ongoing monitoring and optimization of reports and analytical solutions.
- Review and enhance data artifacts: data models, dictionaries, ETL plans.
- Recommend improvements for data integration, conversion, replication, and migration processes.
- Proactively communicate risks and technical issues to ensure timely resolution.
- Develop user documentation and visual representations of data analysis, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
- Provide weekly/monthly technical reports outlining findings that may impact schedules, resources, or deliverables.
Minimum Technical Qualifications- 1+ year of hands-on experience using Generative AI for data analytics solutions.
- 5+ years of experience designing and developing BI dashboards with Microsoft Power BI.
- 5+ years of experience with Agile methodologies and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- 5+ years of experience using Power BI DAX to create queries, measures, and data models.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with SQL (queries, performance optimization, stored procedures, functions, views, and database principles).
- 3+ years of experience building data solutions using Snowflake or AWS Redshift.
Desirable Technical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, IT, or related field (CalSTRS may request degree verification).
- 3+ years of experience in State agencies, Financials, Investment portfolios, or other regulated industries (highly preferred).
- Ability to apply business knowledge to design analytical models and reports that meet business user needs.
