Position Overview
Under the direction of the DFA, the Azure Cloud Architect will serve as the primary architect for the agency’s Azure cloud initiatives. This role is a blend of strategic planning and hands-on execution, responsible for designing public cloud solutions, establishing usage policies, and leading the migration of critical workloads from on-premises environments to Azure. A key focus of this position is the transition of enterprise systems—specifically the state payroll system (SPAHRS) currently on zLinux mainframes—into secure, scalable cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Architectural Leadership: Design and oversee the adoption of Azure-based IaaS and PaaS solutions across the enterprise.
• Cloud Migration: Lead the migration of legacy workloads (including mainframe-based systems) to Azure.
• Automation & DevOps: Implement automation for provisioning, configuration management, and full lifecycle tasks.
• Governance & Security: Establish strategies and policies to ensure strong cloud governance, security, and compliance.
• Hybrid Integration: Integrate hybrid environments and manage containerized workloads.
• Technical Guidance: Provide expert-level support for Windows Server, Linux, and legacy system migrations.
• Knowledge Transfer: Support the long-term sustainability of cloud services by providing documentation and training to DFA staff.

Mandatory Qualifications
To be considered, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Education: Four-year degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
• Cloud Migration: 5+ years of direct experience creating Azure environments and migrating on-prem systems to the cloud.
• Azure Architecture: 5+ years of experience as a dedicated Azure Solutions Architect.
• DevOps: 5+ years of experience in DevOps engineering.
• Security & Compliance: 5+ years of experience driving decisions related to cloud security, privacy, and compliance.
• Networking: 5+ years of network administration experience.
• Communication: Excellent English-speaking and written communication skills.
• Knowledge Transfer: Proven experience in documentation and formal knowledge transfer.

Preferred Skills

• Mainframe administration experience (specifically zLinux).
• Expertise in Linux distributions: Red Hat, Ubuntu, and SUSE.
• Experience with AI and Machine Learning integration.
• Proficiency in application monitoring tools and strategies.
