Usage and Billing BSA Very strong Business Systems Analyst (BSA) role focused on usage-based billing and product usage calculation, with an expectation to ramp quickly and work closely with product and engineering teams.
Role Summary This role is for a senior BSA who can understand complex usage-based platforms, translate product and engineering concepts into clear business and billing requirements, and help design and improve how usage is captured, rated, and billed.
The position sits at the intersection of Product, Billing, and Engineering, and requires someone who is both highly analytical and “super smart” in understanding how usage flows through to revenue. Key Responsibilities
• Analyze and document how customer usage events should be captured, aggregated, and converted into billable quantities within the billing platform
• Partner with Product and Engineering to define end‑to‑end flows: from product usage signals through mediation/usage calculation services to billing and invoicing.
• Own requirements for changes to the product usage‑calculation engine and billing configurations, including rate plans, pricing models, tiers, and minimum commitments as needed.
• Validate and test new usage and billing capabilities before release, ensuring data quality, pricing accuracy, and correct invoice outputs.
• Analyze billing and usage data to detect anomalies, underbilling or overbilling scenarios, and propose fixes and optimizations.
• Work closely with stakeholders (Product, Sales Ops, Finance, Customer Success) to gather requirements, refine use cases, and communicate impacts of changes.
• Create clear documentation, process flows, and training materials that explain how usage is measured, rated, and billed for internal and external audiences.
Required Skills and Experience
• 8+ years as a Business Systems Analyst or similar role in SaaS, billing, or payments, with at least 5 years of recent experience on usage‑based or consumption‑based billing.
• Deep understanding of usage-based billing concepts (meters, events, rating, mediation, tiers, overages, minimums) and how they are implemented in modern billing tools.
• Strong analytical and data skills, including comfort working with large usage datasets, reconciling billing outputs, and troubleshooting discrepancies.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with engineers and product managers, translate technical details into business requirements, and support agile delivery.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex usage/billing flows to non‑technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
• Salesforce QCP experience and Salesforce Billing .
Experience with leading usage-based billing platforms (e.g., Stripe, Zuora, Orb, Chargebee, BillingPlatform, Lago, etc.)
