But the bot's best Wordle start words were far more efficient, with plenty of single-figure options. PLATE, for example, leaves four answers, while LEAST lowers that to three. If you played SLATE or TALES, just the correct answer would be possible.

You might think that would be unbeatable, but some of WordleBot's best Wordle start words proved even more efficient. TRIPE and TRACE both leave four possible solutions, and if you played TROPE, you'd be down to three.

Without one, you'll be scrabbling around in the dark trying (and possibly failing) to find the right five letters (or possibly fewer) out of the 26 possibles. But clever people (not me) have done the math and identified the best start words based on both frequency in English and frequency among Wordle answers. So use them!

Finally, try out possibilities. So long as you don't press 'Enter' you can try possible answers to see how they look on screen. Put in likely letters plus any you know are definitely in the word, then mentally change one to the other available options. This technique has worked for me multiple times, and it's particularly helpful when the word in question is not an obvious one (like FJORD or ISLET).

Wordle is a simple game in which your challenge is to guess a five-letter word in six attempts. Each time you guess, you're told which of your chosen letters are in the target word, and whether they are in the right place.

Freelance contributor Alan has been writing about tech for over a decade, covering phones, drones and everything in between. Previously Deputy Editor of tech site Alphr, his words are found all over the web and in the occasional magazine too. When not weighing up the pros and cons of the latest smartwatch, you'll probably find him tackling his ever-growing games backlog. Or, more likely, playing Spelunky for the millionth time.

Wordle is a simple word-guessing game that tasks players with solving a five-word puzzle using letter position clues. Wordle presents the player with six rows of five empty boxes. Simply enter a random five-letter word and the website highlights certain letters in green if they are correct, yellow if they are correct but in the wrong spot, or grey if they are not in the word at all. With this information, players need to try to figure out the word within the six guesses to be successful.

With a new Wordle added every day, players may need a little help with the more difficult words, and having a strong starting word is important. Players may not have time to work out the puzzle solution every day, or perhaps they just want to keep their streak going but are having too much difficulty with the daily word. Whatever the reason, players can find every daily Wordle answer used so far in 2023 below.

The idea of the game is to drag and drop a set of letters onto the board in order to spell words until all of the letters have been correctly placed and are connected. Just like Wordle, there's a new game each day!

Rearrange the letters into the correct words, horizontally and vertically. Drag letters anywhere on the board. The letters will change colour to show whether they are in the correct position. The number of moves remaining is displayed below the board.

This does not necessarily mean that both of the Ns must be used in these two words. In this particular example, both words contain an N in the middle, and the other N belongs in CLONE.

Sure it exercises the brain a little, but luck plays too much of a role to take it seriously, esp. since you're guessing with no clues/context. Plus there's been multiple words where 3-4 of the exact letters in the same spaces are shared by multiple words.

This post originally appeared at my Forbes blog. I have begun writing a near-daily Wordle guide there and have written a few other pieces about the daily word puzzle game, including this post which . . . is more than just a Wordle post, I believe, which is why I’m sharing it here.

Since I originally posted this, The New York Times has released a Wordle-bot which has confirmed that the best starting word is, in fact, ‘Crane’ which is what my friend Paul Tassi uses every day. This does not change a thing. I stand by my argument below. Enjoy.

In my own guide, I don’t give you the ‘best’ word at all, but I do suggest people pick words with common letters. Most of my suggestions are a little bit vague: Play puzzle games, read books, become more familiar with both language and the act of puzzle-solving.

Relying on a ‘best’ word is folly. There’s no word that will guarantee you the most success when it comes to winning at Wordle.1 I don’t care what the genius linguist statisticians say. This is a bad way to play the game.

Don’t get me wrong. If you want to guess the ‘best’ word each and every time, or if you’re just superstitious to the point where you always use the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 when you buy a lottery ticket, more power to you. Everyone has their own personal strategy and that’s fine.

I just think it’s kind of silly and pointless. How much does guessing the ‘best’ word actually increase your odds? Considering there’s around 2,000 possible words right now, probably not much. Besides, a bad first guess can be useful, too, by eliminating possible letters.

I change my starting word every single time. It’s more fun to think of new words every day, and the different combination and order of letters keeps things interesting. You could tally up all the five-letter words in this post and have great starting words for days.

The best starting word for Wordle doesn’t exist. It’s whatever word pops into your brain when you start the game each day. Or something you read the night before in a blog post, or overheard someone say on the way to work.

It’s lousy because that’s how you’re feeling, or noisy because the neighbors are fighting again, or alone because here you are on a Saturday night, sitting in the kitchen staring at the wall and drinking by yourself, wondering where all the years have gone, wondering if things will ever change. Solving a word puzzle and guzzling gin.

As I note above, there is actually a word that will guarantee you more success and it is Crane and yet I still think that’s boring and you should play with lots of different words. But of course, to each their own.

Broadly speaking, the whole Wordle craze portrays such a sincere form of human connection. This singular game became a point of unification and commonality for people all around the world. I would see my extended family in India posting their scores and building conversations around the word of the day. Celebrities from around the world would share their Wordle squares on social media. And, of course, my small family of four continues to derive joy from doing the Wordle every night.

The main goal of the game is to guess the hidden word in 6 tries. In each line, you need to enter any word from 4 to 11 letters to find out what letters are in the target word. Depending on which word you entered, the letters will be highlighted in three colors.
Color marking:
The letter isn't in the target word at all.
The letter is in the word but in the wrong spot.
The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.

In American English, we use a dictionary from the Letterpress word list that includes a list of 275,000 words. This dictionary is constantly updated with new words based on real feedback from people.

The word "agent" has its origins in Latin. It is derived from the Latin word "agens," which is the present participle of the verb "agere," meaning "to do" or "to act." "Agens" in Latin referred to someone or something that performs an action or carries out a task. Over time, this Latin term evolved into the English word "agent," which retains a similar meaning, representing a person or entity that acts on behalf of another or is responsible for performing specific tasks or actions.

Solve the WAFFLE in no more than 15 moves. Waffle game is played on a grid that looks like a Waffle in appearance. When you start the game, random words will be placed in different grids. Assuming doing one everyday Wordle is excessively simple yet shuffling four immediately is too hard. At that point, our words rundown will prove to be useful. This branch-off of the exemplary word-speculating recipe is marginally trickier, as you need to answer two separate networks. It'll require the entirety of your strength, so we're here to assist with getting you over the line.

Our word rundown will go through the two everyday answers for each challenge, so you never need to risk losing your sought-after streak. We'll likewise give you a few hints on the most proficient method to play the game. And how you can play puzzles from earlier days.
