To unlock the key to my spiritless, soulless living room with milky white walls and a hideous triple mirrored fireplace, I decided to go on a shopping spree in my apartment, garage and storage unit to find forgotten treasures. My goal was to illuminate the living room, working my way around the space to the dreaded shoddy fireplace.

I found an old, custom-made tasseled lampshade in a box and placed it on an antique wrought iron floor lamp that accommodates three light bulbs. Its terracotta-toned color projected light on a poorly lit favorite painting with orange and yellow stripes hanging above a bronze pear sculpture. By adding warm toned light through the lampshade, the walls, armoire, pear and painting lit up.

A German artist, Georg Fenkl, painted both pieces of art, one hanging above the buffet titled Endurance of Paper, and The Thinking Man with the orange and yellow striped shirt pictured earlier in the vignette. The three lamps infused light through their terracotta and orange shades onto these two colorful works of art, the furniture, walls and rug, warming the entire west wall.

To bring light to the east wall of the living room, we found a black and gray antique console table in Sonoma. We placed it behind the sofa to hold two additional lamps we carried in our car from New Mexico. Their persimmon-colored light bathes Russian artist, Irina Korsakova, mysterious painting in radiant light.

I am a big fan of lamps that offer softer and more intimate lighting than downlights which this apartment ceiling is dotted with throughout every room. I never turn them on as their harsh light makes anyone in the room look sick, unlike the understated lamp light that creates a warm atmospheric glow.

Surrounded by stark white walls, I show the image of the flimsy looking fireplace with the dirty stone surround, to compare with the new focal point. The mirrors reflect the outdoors, but the scene is confusing due to the horizontal and vertical orientation and shapes of the mirrors that confuse the eye.

The large acrylic painting over the fireplace that previously hung in my Sausalito office, was wrapped in paper in the garage and signed by an unknown Marin artist, Pedroli. It covers the large horizontal mirror perfectly.

But something more was needed. I looked throughout Marin and Sonoma counties and fortunately found three small, reasonably priced oil paintings created by a local artist I have known for years, Robert Adams. The feeling and colors resonated beautifully with the Pedroli painting while diffusing the bold 14 Carrots paint color on the adjacent panels. With infrequent fires, I keep candles lit most nights to add a tender quality to the light on the north wall.

I brought back another piece of sculpture I adore from Casita Alegria. It is a shiny burnt-orange ceramic watermelon-half, embellished with raisin-colored seeds scattered around its lime-green border.

Consider painting an accent wall with a new favorite untrendy color that you love. Experiment with adding hints of black and white to colorful areas of your home. And remember, working with color changes with the light coming into the space.

The fireplace treatment looks great. What an amazing view you have. It makes the apartment worth having to leave your house for a while. I always love the warmth of your color palette. The carrot color is so good.

Yet BGR lore rarely tells the end of the story! For after that fateful freshman year, we went on to rent our first apartment together, taking our roommateship to the next level. Nothing tests a friendship like shopping for a shower curtain together.

These things, you will work through. What you will never be comfortable with in the long term is not being close to your work, not being close to school, not being close to any of your friends, and basically feeling like your home is just an expensive place that you come home to to sleep.

"Wilson" is the tenth episode of the sixth season of House. It aired on Fox on November 30, 2009. In contrast to the usual storylines focused on Gregory House, this episode centered on James Wilson and a day in his life.

The hunting trip is with a former leukemia patient named Tucker, who credits Wilson with saving his life 5 years prior. He wants to reward "Jim" in various ways (such as taking him on this hunting trip) for saving his life. They follow a ritual of sticking an empty chemotherapy bag onto a tree, Wilson labeling it with the number of years Tucker has been free of cancer and Tucker shooting the bag. Wilson turns away, using a hunting whistle to try to attract turkeys, suddenly Tucker misfires, narrowly missing Wilson's head. Wilson turns around alarmed, finding Tucker on the ground and complaining he cannot move his arm.

Tucker is summarily taken to the hospital for diagnostic tests. Initially, Wilson diagnoses the man with transverse myelitis after noticing that Tucker's girlfriend has a cold sore, the virus of which if transmitted to Tucker could be the cause of his sudden onset paralysis. He prescribes Acyclovir, feeling proud of his "House-like" diagnostic coup. House, however, bets Wilson $100 that it is actually a recurrence of his cancer, which Wilson refuses to believe. Tucker is discovered to have acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a different form of leukemia than the one he was previously treated for (the chemo treatment of which possibly caused/complicated this new recurrence). The cancer seems very treatable, but Tucker does not initially respond to treatment. During the treatment process, regardless of House's warning Wilson decides to employ a double dose of chemotherapy, which does cure the cancer but leads to severe liver damage. Wilson is horrified to realize that without a transplant, Tucker has about twenty-four hours to live.

House informs Wilson of a motorcycle accident victim recently admitted who might be a potential donor, but his sister, an Asian woman who appears to be a member of Mahikari, is unwilling to allow the organ donation because she does not want to violate his remains before burial. After visiting her home and unsuccessfully trying to convince her, Wilson learns that it is too late anyway as the liver has already degraded beyond usefulness.

Remembering Wilson had donated blood to him before, Tucker realizes his friend would be a compatible donor and impinges on their friendship by pleading for Wilson to donate a portion of his own liver to save his life. While Wilson feels that to do so would violate his professional ethics, he considers complying due to a sense of guilt over prescribing the double dose of chemotherapy that destroyed his liver. House finds it asinine how that Wilson is blaming himself for treating his patient's cancer.

After seeing how Tucker had reunited with his estranged family in light of his dire situation and wishing to extend this time for him, Wilson finally relents to his friend's plea and plans to go ahead with the operation to donate a portion of his liver. Before the operation, Wilson asks House to be there for the operation. House, showcasing a rare moment of vulnerability, initially refuses by revealing to Wilson that he cannot since "If you die, I'm alone." At the operation, as Wilson is being anesthetized, he sees House enter the viewing area above and smiles just as the anesthetic fully kicks in. After the operation however, Tucker reverts to his selfish old ways, and tells Wilson: "The person you want when you're dying isn't the same person you want when you're living." Now that he is going to live, Tucker reveals he is summarily casting his family aside again to again pursue a new love interest, one even younger (almost the same age as his own daughter). This makes Wilson lose respect for him.

Meanwhile, the relationship between Lisa Cuddy and Lucas Douglas continues, shown from Wilson's point of view. Cuddy wants to buy a new home through Wilson's realtor ex-wife, Bonnie, and is seeking House's approval, also indirectly through Wilson. Complaining she has hurt him, House schemes and plots to interfere with this latest relationship development, again through Wilson. Later, Wilson takes House to the fancy new loft apartment that Cuddy had wanted, and tells House he has bought it instead (Bonnie disclosed Cuddy's bid so he was able to outbid her, practically "stealing" it from under her). He explains that he did so because she had hurt his friend (House) so "deserved to be punished". The two of them also needed a bigger place to live in, "with space for a larger refrigerator!"

Paranormal Experience: Is a murdered girl seeking justice through another woman's dreams?

Single mom Jodi Foster and her daughter Hannah had relocated to Chico, California from Montana. Money was tight. Jodi was searching for a reasonably priced apartment when she discovered Walnut Gardens. It looked inviting, and the building was in a good neighborhood to raise a family. The only drawback was that the apartment wasn't on the ground floor. Jodi worried about Hannah falling off the balcony. The building manager agreed that as soon as a downstairs apartment became available, Jodi could move. Jodi took the apartment.

On her first night sleeping in the new place, Jodi dreamt of a young couple in 1970s clothing who were searching for somebody. There was something predatory about the dream. It felt as though she was a ghost to them. When she spoke of the dream to her friend Idie, Idie thought Jodi's subconscious was working out her irrational fear of something happening to Hannah.

The drems continued. The next one had the couple walking down the hallway toward Jodi's apartment. Suddenly, they were inside, and trying to take Hannah. As Jodi screamed for them to stop, dream Hannah became a young woman Jodi he never seen before. Jodi bolted awake, giving herself a panic attack. It was 3:37 a.m.

Finally, a ground floor apartment opened up. Jodi moved, thinking this would stop the dreams. Idie, however, had a really bad feeling about the new apartment. She had sense of coldness, and there was a palpable presence in the place. Not long after the move, strange things began happening.
