Thebest way to create a strong password is to use a password manager, which randomizes and stores your passwords for you. You can also use passphrases and a combination of capital letters, numbers, and special characters to protect your password against cracking and other hacking attempts.
15 to 20 characters or more. Length is your best defense. Each additional character in your password massively increases its potential combinations, which in turn greatly prolongs the amount of time needed to brute force your password.
You can stump dictionary attacks by taking your passwords further than single, easy-to-guess words. Chain multiple words together to create extra-long passphrases that are highly resistant to both dictionary attacks and standard brute force attempts.
This technique takes the passphrase approach and elevates it a few security notches. Outsmart hackers by choosing uncommon words such as proper nouns, historical figures, archaic words, or even words in multiple languages.
Created by cybersecurity expert Bruce Schneier, the sentence method transforms a sentence into a password using a given rule that you create. For example, you might pull the first two letters from each word in your sentence, then string them together for your password.
If you like using standard words for your passwords, string a few together into a passphrase. Using this technique allows you to create strong password examples that can stump many dictionary attacks. The words in your passphrase must be completely random, or else password cracking software may be able to guess what they are.
The best way to keep your passwords private and protect your data is to use long, unique passphrases as passwords to all your accounts, and then keep track of them all with a password manager. Here are additional ways to lock down your passwords.
Avast BreachGuard scans the dark web to detect your personal data in the event of a leak. Data breaches happen all the time, with the stolen data often put up for sale to other cybercriminals on the black market. If and when BreachGuard detects your data, it'll alert you immediately so you can take action ASAP to change your passwords and secure your accounts.
Use a VPN while on unsecured Wi-Fi networks, such as free public Wi-Fi at an airport or in a cafe. Using a VPN will prevent any eavesdroppers from intercepting your login credentials.
An accurate and up-to-date email address, and/or phone number ensure you never lose access to your X account. There are a few ways to change your password, and keeping this information up to date simplifies resetting your account or password.
Note: Resetting your password will log you out of all your active X sessions. Additionally, password reset via text message isn't available to accounts that are enrolled in login verification. You can only reset your password through email.
If you frequently receive password reset messages that you did not request, it may be a good idea to turn on the Password reset protection in your account settings and set up two-factor authentication.
Hi,
I have downloaded Dropbox passwords manager app on my phone to store all my passwords. I accidently reset it and all my passwords saved are gone. I have the 12 seed recovery words which i tried to use but this did not help. The screen where I enter the recovery words accepts it does not continue. it recognises the recovery words but stays on that screen.
Any help here, I have 100s of password stored and it would be a disaster if I cannot restore or recover it. What can I do?
I have a Dropbox plus account.
Best regards,
Omar
Dropbox do not have the capability to recover things which it has permanently removed - imagine the legal issues if they did from people who wanted to remove files etc. from servers and were told it was permanent to find out its not?
Did this post not resolve your issue? If so please give us some more information so we can try and help - please remember we cannot see over your shoulder so be as descriptive as possible!
Hi,
Yes I did a reset on the iPhone app. However the information was not clear on the app as it is on the link you sent. It said it would delete data on the device and log me out.
As such I thought it would log me out from all devices as I had it in a few places BUT not delete my data.
It was just one click and no clear warning. Ithought with my 12 word seed recovery I could reinstall all passwords.
Is there no hope. Any possibility or chance to contact Dropbox support to ask them to recover it. I read sonewhere they keep data for 30 days and I still have a paid Dropbox plus account.
Thanks for your reply and any help?
Best regards,
Omar

Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is a web-based application that allows UTHealth students, faculty, and staff to change their current password or recover a forgotten password. A password can be recovered either through a personal email account or mobile phone if it has been enrolled through SSPR. For more information about SSPR, explore the tabs above.
The personal email address is an account that you can prove control of. Recovery codes can be sent to that account to allow you to recover your own password. Once enrolled, the Help Desk will send recovery codes to your personal email address to verify your identity when you call. Your recovery email address and mobile phone number registered with SSPR will only be used for managing your password.
Mobile App authentication uses a one time password (OTP) via an enrolled application. One Time Passcode (OTP) is an automatically generated numeric or alphanumeric string of characters that authenticates the user for a single transaction or session. It can be setup using Setup Mobile App Authentication in SSPR. There are several OTP mobile applications such as DUO and Google Authenticator.
