Depois da resina open-source, Autodesk libera impressora SLA/DLP open-source

Imagine um mundo onde isso seja cotidiano: ao invés de lermos notícias de ciência e tecnologia distantes, de coisas que não veremos na nossa frente a não ser em alguns anos, temos a notícia e logo abaixo um botão: "você pode baixar a receita, a planta, as instruções e a lista de componentes [aqui] pra fazer um igual".

Parabéns a Autodesk. Ela realmente tem feito por "onde". E a propósito: o excelente software gratuito dela (infelizmente ainda não é livre), o meshmixer, está disponível para GNU/Linux.

A notícia é sobre uma impressora SLA de projetor (DLP) com inclusive uma resina open-source também.

OBS.: Adorei a qualificação: "FREEDOM-RESPECTING PRINTERS". O que implica que impressoras 3D proprietárias te desrespeitam em relação a liberdades.

Software and hardware giant Autodesk today made the schematics and firmware for the 3D printer Ember open source and available for download.

“We’ve released Ember’s design for two reasons: it’s a commitment to how we’re thinking and acting differently about hardware and it allows our customers to easily extend Ember making it perfect for their needs,” said Eric Wilhelm, director of communities for Autodesk and founder of Instructables, of the move to open source.

Open-Source Chemistry: Autodesk Shares Formula for 3DP Resin

The printer’s electronics — design files, schematics and PCBs, bill of materials, approved vendor lists, and assembly drawings — are licensed as Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike and the firmware as GNU GPL. Autodesk had previously shared Ember’s mechanical designs and even the recipe for the resin it uses.

“I think its great to see that Autodesk have taken the initiative to share their work under a pair of standard copyleft licenses: CC BY-SA for the EDA schematics and the GNU GPL for the software,” says Creative Commons technical lead Matt Lee. “All future improvements made by the community and Autodesk can now be freely shared, and hopefully we’ll see useful improvements that can be used by other freedom-respecting 3D printers, such as the Lulzbot.”

Não sou ovo mas fiquei chocado! Autodesk está de parabéns, é não é somente o Meshmixer que eles disponibilizam de graça, está o 123D Design, 123D Catch (para escanear em 3D a partir de um celular), 123D Circuits, 123D Make, 123D Sculpt+, o site Tinkercad (que funcionou maravilhosamente em todas as maquinas que testei ele mesmo maquinas um pouco lentas), Tinkerplay.

Todos esses programas e sites e apps são gratuitos e estão a disposição da comunidade que quer entrar no mundo da impressão 3D, recorte a laser, eletrônica, e por ai vai...
