I'm still looking for a local source of at least a FEW solderable socket strips,
at least enough to adapt a few Propeller USB boards, like we did at MiRC
for the PropBots.

I need to get my hands on a few by next Tuesday, for a robotics project
session at the high school. I'd prefer to buy a few off of someone that
might have some stock on hand, rather than incur a rush order charge
for such a small amount via Digikey, etc...

Does anyone happen to have any female (socket) strips, on hand, that
they'd be willing to sell, or at least LEND to me until I can replace them?

To I3 ... Thanks for the ref to FCB-Electronics. (To all - supposedly they
are an electronics sales org with stock, IN Ann Arbor - but NO phone
nor office address, only eBay and web sales online interfaces, with
associated shipping charges.) I been trying to contact them at their
Contact Us email address several times in the last couple of weeks,
to TRY to buy from them, and do a Will Call. (Hey... Why ship, when
I live IN Ann Arbor?) But, they haven't returned ANY replies to my inquiries.

I'm starting to wonder if they are a "real" biz, or just someone's personal
sideline thing, with a shopping cart webpage.

Does anyone know this biz? If so - who is it, and how can I get ahold of them?
Does anyone else know of a cache of those socket strips somewhere?
Thanks!

Hi Keith,
I have some you can buy, at least I think it is what you are looking for (there's more than 1 type).  We build Sanguinololu and StepStick boards, I have the female strip headers that the StepStick's plug into, is that what you need?  Our office is in Madison Heights, I could meet you over the weekend or Monday.

Best Regards,

BTW... If this doesn't work, does anyone know of or can recommend any
US-based online sources (AND part numbers) for them, who may
be able to send them via US Priority Mail pouch to get here in time?
(The strips and tiny and light - they'll easily fit in a USPM pouch.)

Oh, duh.. An excellent question!
I need all single wide, mostly 1x10s, but I can add up smaller
stuff, or cut down longer ones with a Dremel (you only lose
1 pin per cut).

To completely outfit each PropUSB board EXACTLY, I'd need:
... (5) 1x10, (2) 1x4, and (1) 1x3. (IOW, 61 socket pins per board).

I currently have THREE PropUSB boards to adapt at Tuesday's
school soldering session, but I do plan to buy more boards later.
That makes (61x3=183) socket pin positions to "fill" for Tuesday,
or roughly (19) 1x10 strips worth. (I can order additional strips later.)

So, I was hoping to locate either:
- a LOT of 1x10s (19 would be PERFECT!),
- a BAG of shorter 1x__ ones that would add up to what I need, or
- a few longer 1x__ strips, to cut down.

But at this point, I'll take anything I can get ahold of, and make them work.

BTW... If I can't get enough sockets to do them ALL, even outfitting
ONE additional PropUSB board (61 push-wire socket pins worth)
would help out!

Can you (or anyone else) help me achieve that?

Tuesday is Setup Day, when I was hoping to solder on the
strips. Thursday is the actual "final Assembly Day", where the
new FIRST team recruits will add whatever completed PropUSB
boards I have onto chassis. So if I couldn't get the strips by
Tuesday I could delay strip soldering until Thursday, but I'm
REALLY trying to insure that the boards are soldered, tested,
and ready to go before Thursday's Final Assembly Day.

I'm hoping someone local has them. Otherwise, I may have to
make a rush Digikey (or other supplier - yet TBD) to fill it on Monday.

But I'd still also like some recommended sources and part numbers, for
ordering strips people here have used, and KNOW will work reliably.

Thanks!
