I adore this song. It encourages us all to quit looking to the future for our source of happiness. No matter how cautious you are, and how well you take care of yourself, you will die. No one escapes that fate. So why worry about it? I could be hit by a bus when I leave work today, there's just no way to know. But why should I cower at home? Go out, have fun. I'm really trying to take the message of this song to heart. This is my only shot at life, there's no everlasting sparkly paradise waiting for me. It sucks that we can't live as long as redwoods, but our life span is a hell of a lot better than that of a mayfly.
Heh. I know someone to dedicate this song to XD, because she's always "cowering in her house", and just can't accept that " no one lives forever". She needs to "throw a party"... and tonight, there IS a full moon in the sky.

I had the extreme pleasure of attending a Mega's 80's concert this past weekend with my wife and some friends. I had forgotten about all of the ridiculously awesome and ground breaking music from so many different genres that happened in one decade. And because we all listened to the radio and MTV we were exposed to all of it, like it or not! Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Talking Heads, Beastie Boys, Prince (The 2nd half of the show was a Prince tribute, may God rest his soul) Guns and Roses, Cyndi Lauper, U2, Public Enemy, Aerosmith, Run-D-MC , Bruce! The list goes on and on and on... It blew me away about how many I forgot and how many were ground breaking artists that changed music forever. It changed how we looked at the world and taught me at a young age that I could make anything happen! It was electric, authentic and captivated the world.
Most of all it it made me think about how much it relates to what is happening in our world of technology today! It is all over the place! Overwhelming for most of us. Yes there are leaders like U2 and the Rolling Stones that are rock solid acts. But then you have some Oingo Boingo's out there too! (Man it would not surprise me if there is a SaaS company out there already named that.) It was fast 5 years ago and now we are in 80's acceleration mode. Faster More Cutting Edge!! So fast that most in-house IT is having a hard time keeping up. Shadow IT (is a term often used to describe information-technology systems and solutions built and used inside organizations without explicit organizational approval.) Yes, internal departments are implementing IT projects with a credit card and downloads outside of IT because they need to keep up in their markets... This can expose security threats and create divides within the organization. It is like Run-D-MC and Aerosmith collaborating for goodness sake! In fact 42% of CIO's are worried they are missing IT Expertise. Businesses CAN NOT sit by and wait to see what the trends will be next year.
The good news is there are ways to manage this 1980's type wave of chaos. By working with an organization that manages the IT Services of thousands of clients across the globe you can start to see the trends real time. Understanding what is mission critical (Think Rolling Stones) for your business and what might just be "Big Hair" (Think Winger). Find an organization that will dig deep and assess where you are at across the board with a Groundwork Engagement process. That will outline your network reliability to deliver ever increasing speeds for ever expanding applications which may bring higher levels of security vulnerability, and ever tightening industry compliance for PCI and HIPPA. Require that your partners have these tools. Don't fear but....Embrace the 80's!!
