Update from SCP and welcoming Eriel Deranger!

Hello friends and allies!
What a summer we've seen! There's been a lot of change here at Sierra Club Prairie, but our commitment to defending the air, water, and biodiversity of the prairie region hasn't changed one bit! In fact, in the face of increasing irresponsible development, we are more resolved than ever to finding local, people-powered solutions to the climate crisis.
Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances, Jasmine Thomas is not going to be able to join us as the new ED for the Sierra Club Prairie chapter. We wish Jasmine well on her journey and look forwards to working together in the future.
I am also pleased to welcome Eriel Deranger to SCP as our new chapter Director. Eriel has a long history working on the tar sands campaign. She is a member of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, a nation directly impacted by the mining developments, and was the most recent Freedom from Oil campaigner for the Rain Forest Action Network. She carries with her a strong vision and has excellent organizational and leadership qualities. Welcome Eriel!
This new development means that I will no longer be acting as interim Director, and instead will be pushing harder than ever to bring RePower Alberta and renewable energy discussions to communities across Alberta. Also, the ReSkilling Edmonton Network is ramping up to offer a host of fall workshops that centre around harvesting and preserving, and other various winter preparations (as much as we do not yet want to hear that word!) so that we can continue to think about an act upon solutions to climate change at the local level.
As always, thank you for your continued support and we look forwards to building a healthy, just, and sustainable prairie region with you!
