Hey all!
Below are 2 job openings we have at Talking Points Memo in our New
York office. Both are senior level positions--one as an associate
editor, where you'd help oversee our 2012 coverage, and the other as a
developer, where you'd build/create/code all things 2012--really cool
opportunities for politics junkies.
Feel free to e-mail me with questions/for more info. Salaries are
dependent on experience, especially in the dev position.
Associate Editor
Location: New York City
Description: TPM is hiring an Associate Editor to work in our New York
City headquarters. This is a full-time editing position with a mix of
story-editing, story-assigning and writing responsibilities. Each
associate editor works with a small team of reporters and plays a
substantial role directing the site’s coverage.
Candidates must have relevant editorial experience and must be ready
to work at the fast-paced metabolism of a new media news organization.
A solid grasp of contemporary U.S. politics, a real familiarity with
TPM, and solid news judgment are each a must.
Competitive salary, health insurance coverage (TPM pays 100% of
premium), 401(k), three weeks paid vacation per year. To apply, send a
resume and cover letter to our comments email address at the upper
right hand corner of the site. Include the subject line: “Job App:
Associate Editor.”
Senior Developer, Applications
Location: New York City
Description: TPM is looking for a Ruby developer who's interested in
moving to a more senior position in a small development team and is
eager to work on a fast-growing and fast moving site in the lead up to
Election 2012.
The baseline candidate has 2-3 years of development experience, Ruby
fluency and is comfortable working with Git.
Our ideal candidate would also have some familiarity with non-Rails
Ruby frameworks (Sinatra, Padrino, etc.), NoSQL databases (MongoDB,
Reddis, etc.), front-end JavaScript tools (jQuery, Backbone,
Processing, etc.), and *nix server administration (Apache, Nginx,
etc.).
The primary responsibility of the employee would be working with the
director of technology to plan and execute the creation and
maintenance of web-applications at TPM. He/she would need to work in
concert with our team of developers, occasionally providing guidance
to more junior members of the staff.
