There are core skills that determine when a child is ready for advancement. An example of an advancement from ponyfish/1 to flounder/2 would be a combination of skills such as blowing bubbles with the mouth but maybe not the nose. Another skill they must master is doing the skills by themselves with their float belts but no instructor contact. There are also listening/understanding skills they must master as well.
