Hey all,

As some of you may have already noticed, I have a version 1.1.7 out in TestFlight now.

If you're willing to help beta test it, the TestFlight invite link is:

There are 2 main changes in this version:

1: It should fix the audio routing bug that VoiceOver users were experiencing. After ending a call, the audio would remain very quiet and only out of the upper speaker. Apparently, prior to iOS 18, the system would automatically deactivate the audio session, but after iOS 18, it no longer does this, requiring explicit code to deactivate it. This took a bunch of trial and error before I found the correct API call.

I did test this myself with VoiceOver enabled on my phone, but I'll be looking for confirmation from our blind community that this has truly resolved the issue.

2: Implemented EQ 'clarity boost' suggested by N2DYI. This should boost input audio frequencies around 3 kHz by 5Db and hopefully make voices a bit brighter. For this one, I'm primarily looking for audio people to let me know that it's sounding good.

Assuming there is feedback and that it's positive, we can get these changes released soon.

I have another, larger functionality change waiting in the wings.... "virtual node" mode to provide an alternative to allstar-public authentication.

Hi Wes:

1. Voiceover reliably doesn't go to the earpiece anymore after a call has ended. I don't use Repeaterphone that much, since I have lots of actual nodes, and when I do, I usually use headphones, so I didn't realize that was a problem until it was pointed out to me. Anyway, it no longer seems to be a problem, so that's great.

2. Audio with the boost sounds better to me, especially on repeaters, from what I've heard of it so far, both with my own testing and a couple others. It's more like DVSwitch Mobile on my old Moto E6 now.

I do have a question, though. Is the EQ still applied with voice processing disabled? I don't remember what it sounded like before. Since I like to use headphones with no in-line microphone, if I know I'm in a situation where I don't need echo cancellation, I usually turn processing off and increase the gain to compensate for the lack of AGC. I'm probably one of very few people who do this, because it's easy to mess up, but I've always preferred that sound to the standard thing you get from iOS.
It does seem a little cleaner to me, at least according to my parrot node (55553), but maybe this is placebo. I can definitely hear the difference with voice processing enabled though.

Thanks for this update.

Hi Patrick,

Yes, the EQ is applied regardless of whether or not voice processing is on.

I've sent the update to Apple review, so it should be released soon.

Thank you for the suggestion and sorry it took so long to get it done.
