Hi All,

RepeaterPhone version 1.1 will gain the ability to synchronize your saved Favorites between devices on the same Apple ID account using iCloud.

Because iCloud is a bit of a pain to test (because it requires multiple devices and multiple accounts) and has the potential to mess up people's (sometimes) carefully curated favorites, I've decided to do a short cycle of beta testing to make sure everything is good before releasing it.

If you were a beta tester before, it should be available in TestFlight. If you would like to join the beta test program, the link is here:

Some things to keep in mind for the beta test:
- In any beta program, things can go wrong. You might lose your settings or need to re-install, but hopefully not
- The main thing I ask of a beta tester is that you report it when things go wrong with as much detail as possible. I can't fix bugs if I don't know about them.
- I've bumped up the user limit on the beta test group to 50 users. If the link stops working, it's possible that it has filled up.
- I am not planning on offering free promo codes this time around, since it's really targeted at users who already have the app.
- Each build expires after 90 days. If we find bugs, I'll fix them and push a new build, resetting the timer. If a couple weeks go by without any bug reports, I'll go ahead and release it. At that point the beta test is complete and the updated release will appear in the App Store.

Hi,

I am using the beta with no problems found so far. I don't see any place in settings to enable the iCloud syncing. Is this automatically enabled?

Thanks,

I have successfully installed the beta on two devices. These devices both have favorites saved, one has more than the other. I’ve had interesting experiences with iCloud synching before, notably with very large voice dream reader libraries that had issues. Are there any instructions for how to do the synch? I didn’t see any. Looked in settings. What should the procedure be? I hope this isn’t a stupid question, but I really couldn’t find anything in the app or on TestFlight itself, which I didn’t really expect that.

Mary,

Sometimes the synchronization is not instantaneous. It may take a few minutes. When the iCloud database is updated, a push notification is sent to all devices and Apple sometimes batches those up for efficiency.

Or, there's always the possibility that it could be a bug.

It should work similar to the way other things on your phone are synchronized, such as Contacts; there's nothing manual to do, hence, no instructions or procedures.

Thank you, Wes. I know for voice dream reader, they said that you should not have more than one instance of the app open at any one time, or you could screw up the whole process of sinking. I don’t know if they still say that. Do you have anything to say on that topic? So if I leave two versions active, that is to say open, not actually in use actively, should the whole thing sink? Or should I just open one at a time like Winston said for voice dream reader?

Mary,

When you say "two instances of the app", do you mean two windows in a split on an iPad? That's the only situation that I can think of where it would appear that there are 2 instances. For RepeaterPhone, it handles all the synchronization at the single application level, so there should never be an issue with that.

Are all of the devices running the beta version?
