I am having serious trouble over figuring out how to prevent KODI from receiving signals from my game controllers after launching snes roms through Rom collection browser or advanced launcher. I am strictly using retroarch 1.2.2 for my emulator. The game controller is reeking havoc in the background after playing a game. It is simply a mess when exiting retroarch. I painfully have everything working after weeks of researching. This seems to be the last issue (hopefully) almost a week of searching and I am at the end of my wits. I am not a Linux expert. This is the closest solution I have seen yet. Not sure if it can help me. I am running Kodibuntu with rom collection browser, and retroarch. I just want to be able to launch a snes game, use my game controller with out the inputs running in the background, and I want to be where I was when I exit the game. Can anyone please give me an Idea How I can do this, or direct me in the right area? I do not wish to kill kodi, but if I have to, so be it. Thank you so much in advance for any help.

Basically im doing my own personal SPMC build for home use, ive got all the TV stuff done, but now id like a menu called Games then with sub menus with the systems (Genesis, Snes, Dreamcast) and then be able to launch them so that it takes me to the games for that system only. Ive managed it with Rom Collection Browser, but am limited to how it looks once the system opens up and displays the games I have. where as Hyperspin looks a classer and more importantly...flashier lol

There is an addon for kodi called advanced launcher that will help with this - you had this your little script and it will let you have a button to launch it in kodi. Trouble is this addon is no longer available - as the author is working on a new version.

With Rom Collection Browser I can simply create Multiple instances of the plugin, and have them named differently ie RomCollectionBrowserGenesis and that will then show up in SPMC. I then can simply set that up to be just my Genesis games

What do you want to know?

In the Video Thatman posted, I would hazard a guess it's done how I do it on Windows. Change the Kodi skin to something like "Amber". Then use the Advanced Launcher Addon to make a shortcut for the HyperSpin.exe. You can pick any .exe you like, so you can have Chrome/Firefox or Word etc. launched from the Kodi "Home screen". The Amber skin is easy to customise and add your own background images for each section. It's how I setup my Mother's PC so she can use it easily to watch films or open PC software she commonly uses.

On Android (I have the Shield TV), it's easier as you can launch Android apps through Addons> Program Addons. Any apps you want to launch from the Home menu (e.g HyperSpin), set them as favourites. Again using the Amber skin you can set favourites to empty slots in the Homescreen layout.

I've not touched the Rom Collection Browser Addon for a looong time, Kodi was still XBMC back then so I can't comment on using that. For Raspberry Pi users there is the Game Starter Addon, it installs emulation station and/or RetroArch. I've launched games through the Kodi menu using that BUT I think most people would just install Retropie now (as it supports video snaps) and install the Kodi package to switch between Arcade mode and Media Centre.

All the best

Hi -

Thanks for the reply -

I too was trying to get Kodi to launch hyperspin in the way you described it. Having Kodi as the main program and then having a menu item called hyperspin - then using some script to launch hyperspin, put kodi in the background - then when exit hyperspin kodi is back in the main focus.

Advanced launcher use to be what i used but now when i use it - every time i go back into kodi it tells me that it is disabled. then i have to re-enable it etc ... not ideal.

What is the standard way of using hyperspin through Kodi? or ... i guess i should say --- is there a standard way to use hyperspin with kodi.

while i have ya ... ever see this video? how does he get this type of vertical "non-wheel" type look? is that a version of hyperspin or something? I like this view

No worries. Although Kodi is technically Media Centre software, I've used it for a loooong time as a kind of "console dashboard". I don't use builds or wizards, I set everything up myself manually.

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. I just create a "new launcher" with the addon and then make them a favourite so it can be added to the home menu. I've just fired up my old laptop to test it and it's still working fine...i.e quits HyperSpin and returns to Kodi. I have several launchers setup for various software, Automotive data, Firefox, FS-UAE (an amiga emulator) and so on..they all work just fine. Maybe it's this script you're talking about that's making problems for you?

I saw some of Austin's videos when he was starting out on Youtube...found his tutorials painful to watch if I'm honest. So no, I've not seen that video as I don't follow him. HOWEVER what you are asking for is set in HyperHQ (look in the HyperSpin folder). Click the "Wheel settings" tab, under "Choose wheel" select main menu. Click the "Wheel" tab and adjust "Style" to Vertical.

There is a database folder which holds the .xml files for each system. Your game roms MUST be named exactly the same as how they're listed in the .xml, all artwork must also match those names as well.

This is the android section but it sounds like you're using a PC. Rocketlauncher can be used to scan your rom folders and show what you have or are missing from the database. It's possible to set HyperSpin to show only the roms you do have. I'd suggest you look for some tutorials, I won't be able to talk you through everything unfortunately..I just don't have the time spare.

All the best with it

LOL I wouldn't worry about it buddy. My friends get confused if I'm showing a video of my HTPC, Shield TV or even a Raspberry Pi. Because Kodi is setup the same on all the "boxes" even sometimes I get confused

thanks for all the help - I got 3 emulators working perfectly and now its just a matter of repeating for all .. i get it now ... wicked program really! this is amazing

Mind if i ask ?

How do i get this look? I found this on Simply Austin's youtube site but cant figure out where to get the artwork for this type of look. The wheel is not curved
and the art work is "boxed" up with nice black backgrounds
I really like that ...

is this some kind of hyperspin skin?

Hi, I followed a tuto on youtube to install Chrome but I don't find the Add-on line in the list. Readding your posts, it seems that Chrome is nomore available on Libreelec/kodi. I'm not attached to chrome, I just need a web browser to find out repos or codes and other simple purposes. What can you tell me about this?

Kodi for GBM
kodi-gbm may be a good choice for standalone operations since it runs Kodi directly on the GPU without the X11 layer. Setups like this will be unable to launch other graphical applications.

If you want a browser you will need to run a desktop OS like Raspbian. There are no browser add-ons for RPi in LE. It's technically possible to hack something using docker, but then you're just running a full desktop OS like Ubuntu in a container in the background, and you have to stop/exit Kodi to switch to the browser and then exit and restart Kodi .. not the best experience. In the future there is maybe one built-in to Kodi, but not yet.

I installed chromium on various platforms and used the chrome launcher, you may need to hack the files as likely if linux you will be running chromium and the cmd line will change.

On the Raspberry Pi I have compiled Kodi 18.5 on arch linux installed chromium with the launcher and it works great.
Problem is "vpdau-vc4" from memory isn't loaded so no "hardware acceleration" on the pi.

On Kodi 19 Alpha which has compile commands for GL or GLES ffmeg-mmal on the Pi seems to work great.
As does the x11 compile but the python bit of addons seems to need more work as the chromium launcher doesn't seem to work.

I don't really find X11 bloated on a Pi4 and it works great on x86_64 if you make your own standalone service with a distro.
Arch is so fast on an old 2nd gen I3 that you could make your own.
Its just a shame the default build of Kodi misses some of the essential kodi system addons of libreelec such as bluetooth pairing and such like.
But apart from that there is little difference.

So to cut a long story short Kodi19 is looking like it will support chromium and presuming LE will add it.
But also Chromium Ozone has just reached beta which means you can have a Chromium-gbm so that Kodi18 could also have.

Stuck on that one as compling Kodi GBM/X11/Wayland is a doddle but struggling with Chromium ozone but will give it a try again.

I have been using Kodi/Chromium/Droidmote so that I can use a phone as a system keyboard/mouse to use for Chromium.
It makes a perfect settop box device where its a media machine with occasional browser use and its so good like that.

I am thinking Chromium_Ozone_GBM could be now even though its only entered Beta but with x11 Kodi19 GL/GLES is available on so maybe it wait till then.

Slightly bemused as Kodi19 is great and seems to run hardware accelerated and Arch RaspPi4 is kernel 4.19 and bemused as thought it would have to be 5.2/5.3 (somewhere when much of the MESA stuff went in)
