Windows Terminal now comes with quake mode! Quake mode allows you to quickly open a new terminal instance from anywhere in Windows by typing Win+`. The quake window will appear on the top half of your screen and can easily be dismissed with the same keyboard shortcut. If you want to further customize how you can summon the terminal, check out the new features we have added for global summon on our docs site.
? Note: You cannot bind quake mode to a keyboard shortcut that is already bound in the OS. This includes PowerToys users who have Win+` bound for the FancyZones layout editor. The PowerToys team recently changed their default keyboard shortcut to Win+Shift+` to help avoid this conflict.
The first is to press Win + R to open the Run dialog. In the text field, type wt -w _quake. Make sure you include the spaces after the t and before the underscore.
If you have disabled app execution aliases, you will have to type or browse to the full path for the Windows Terminal. So instead of typing wt.exe -w _quake, enter C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowssApps\wt.exe -w _quake.
vs windows 11 that comes with malware preinstalled and leaves you in violation of the gdpr as soon as you save an email address to 'your' drive? (unless you paid about $1000 for the enterprise version, which also happens to be unavailable unless you're buying about 1000+ licenses at a time).
but yes, there's a number of issues faced by games running on win11 that were not an issue in win7, though they usually don't stop you from getting in-game.
'wad could not be loaded'. the only wad quake actually uses is gfx.wad found inside id1/pak0.pak - if you're running quake without that pak file relative to your working directory then the fault is on your(or the docs) part. you can't just run it and expect it to magically know where you installed the game data.
1. Create a MUSIC folder in the Quake directory, trying both .OGG and .MP3 files (starting at Track02-Track09) in it
2. Same as above but putting the MUSIC folder under ID1 subdirectory
3. Extracting QUAKESPASM into my Quake directory, renaming Quakespasm.exe to GLquake.exe and launching it. This resulted in a complaint that the system doesn't have enough memory, or something about a .DLL error
4. Putting an audio CD into my CD drive, this works, Quake plays whatever disc I put into my drive, obviously REM doesn't really match the vibe of Quake so...
5. Mounting all 3 of the included disc images with DaemonTools, ensuring that the drive letters assigned are lower than my DVD/CDRW drive (which is D:)
Just tried Quake in windows 98 and DOS:
- No stutters on either OS.
- The resolution is indeed limited under windows, and I suspect it is because the game does not allocate more then 8MB of RAM under Windows 98.
Pretty sure even an old i7 will handle the simpler Quake source ports without a problem so long as the graphics unit is passable decent. Ports are generally more advanced and demanding than the original engine for sure but it's ultimately still 26 year old tech. Don't use Winquake, as others have pointed out that's old and not likely to work well. Just try some of the ports others have suggested. They cannot damage your computer, they just might run like ass.
I think you missed my points. It's a 26 year old game. Unless you are running a laptop from the late 90s, its going to run unless it's a super cheap graphics unit and even a cheap laptop's screen resolution is at least comparable height wise to what was around then. And again attempting to run it will do no harm. Download, experiment, see what works. One of the quakespasm variants is your best shot.
So the point is, I like to develop on a MacBook and one thing I miss from my Windows laptop at work is my cute quake style terminal that rolls down from the top of my screen when I need it to with a quick swift combination of ALT + . It annoys me when my terminal is a whole separate window.
An excellent Single player FPS
This is my first quake, i play it when i was ten years old.
I still remember when i blown up an enforcer's head. My onli reaction was scream IT STILL ALIVE!!! and the rest was just shoot to his dead body xD
IMPRESSIVE
The shaking was felt in Marlboro and Chesterfield counties, adjacent counties on North Carolina state line. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the 3.5-magnitude quake struck at 7:22 a.m. about 6 miles north-northwest of Bennettsville.
OKCULAR, Turkey - Hundreds of people huddled in aid tents and around bonfires yesterday in eastern Turkey, seeking relief from the winter cold after a strong earthquake knocked down stone and mud-brick houses in five villages, killing at least 57 people.
The pre-dawn earthquake caught many residents as they slept, shaking the area's poorly made buildings into piles of rubble. Panicked survivors fled into the narrow streets of this village perched on a hill, with some people climbing out of windows to escape.
